'Hardcore Henry' is action thrill ride told in 'first person' camera
According to “Box Office Mojo” that
tracks box office receipts. “Hardcore Henry” nabbed $9 million in
U.S., theaters. It also grabbed $5 million in Foreign markets around
the world. The production budget approached $2 million.
“Henry” is told in the first person
with the camera as character. Other characters speak directly into
that camera to Henry. He wakes up and is part machine and part man.
His wife is kidnapped and he goes on a killing spree to get her back.
He is told by her that they love each other and that's all we know
about Henry. The action never let's up and there are
guns-knives-grenades-pipes-ropes-fire and blood. If you watch closely
at the end. You might get a glimpse of Henry's face.
I thought it was a fantastic thrill
ride. It's like a video game with you the “player” as Henry.
I would've liked to have seen more character development, but
that isn't the point. (I have to see it again because there is too
much going on in every action sequence).
This isn't the first time the camera is
used as the first person character. Black and White movies used this
technique with full-on character development. “Lady in the Lake”
(1947) with Robert Montgomery and “Dark Passage” (1947) with Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. Both films were box office hits
because of the movie stars. “Lake” used mirrors to show
us the main character. “Passage” used plastic surgery to hide
main character until halfway in. Check them out if you can.

'Bosch' returns April 21, 2017 on Amazon Prime Video
BOSCH on AMAZON. Well, if you didn't watch the 1st and 2nd TV seasons. You missed out on some good television. "Bosch" is based on the excellent Michael Connelly books set in Los Angeles. Harry Bosch has always been haunted by the murder of his mother who was a former prostitute. The third TV season begins April 21, 2017 and Harry might continue searching for his mom's killer. It looks like the LAPD covered up his mother's case years ago. The TV crime show has already been picked up for a 4th season. (I will TV recap each episode right here on this blog - Wahoo!).
Watch below the TV rewind of Seasons 1 & 2.

'Elementary' TV fans shocked over Shinwell's brutal attack on Sherlock
TV fans of “Elementary” are in
shock after Shinwell attacked Sherlock at the end of the episode
called, “Dead Man's Tale.” I too was absolutely shocked, but
let's recap..., Shinwell was accused of killing his best friend many
years ago when they were in a street gang (SBK). His best friend's
younger brother believes it was Shinwell who shot him. Sherlock
investigated on his own. Him and Joan Watson come to believe that Shinwell
gunned down his best friend.
Shinwell is an undercover informant who
wants to help take down the SBK. While he was beating up Sherlock on
the sidewalk. He angrily said that it was the SBK who killed his best
friend and not him. He repeatedly kicked Sherlock to get his point
across. Earlier, Sherlock wouldn't let Shinwell explain his side of
the story. As Sherlock lay on the street beaten and in pain. Shinwell
told him that he wasn't gonna let anyone get in his way while he goes
after the SBK.
TV fans over at “Facebook” are
angry at Shinwell for beating up Sherlock. Some don't like him and
his TV story-line. Some do (...like myself). Watson offered to train
Shinwell to be a crime consultant like herself and Sherlock. That was at
the beginning of the TV season. It's been touch and go for Shinwell who
wants to go straight and be a father to his only daughter. It seems
that he is now “hell bent” on taking down the street gang he was once
a part of. All Sherlock and Watson did was try to help him as much as
they could. What's gonna happen now? He beat up Sherlock pretty
bad...,

into adulthood. She believed that she would be “abducted” in the
dark night. She lived that “fear” in 2014 when she walked into a
parking lot at 3:30 a.m. Christina disappeared and her body has
never been found. Police detectives had retraced her footsteps
through public security cameras. She was seen with friends in front
of a local tavern earlier in the night. She was then later seen
walking with a young man inside a parking lot. That man was named
Enrique who was a former high school classmate. They both had left a
party. Her boyfriend "Hunter" was out of town that night. Christina's
car never left the parking lot. What happened to her?

'Looney Tunes' did 'Sylvester the Cat' say WTF in 'Tree for Two'?
Mel Blanc (1908-1989) was called, "The man with a thousand voices." He created many of our favorite "Looney Tunes" characters, including the infamous Bugs Bunny. There was a cartoon episode called, "Tree for Two" that first aired back in 1952. It had two dogs named Spike and Chester. It also had, "Sylvester the Cat" voiced by Blanc. TV fans have dug into the dialogue that Sylvester says when he meets up with the two dogs. Does he say the swear word, "What the F***"?
The writers of these cartoon shorts did not intentionally write swear words. They were written for kids who went to the movies in the 1940's and 1950's. Plus, the Saturday morning cartoon hours on TV. Spike, Chester and Sylvester starred together in only one other cartoon which was called, "Dr. Jerkyl's Hyde" 1954. Both cartoon shorts are still popular in 2017.

Death of 1950's TV 'Superman' George Reeves is still a mystery
It was the summer of 1959. George Reeves (actor) was found with a bullet wound to his head inside his
bedroom. Police called it a suicide, but the crime scene said
something else. The gun was on the floor between his feet with no finger prints on it. The
bullet shell casing was under his body. There was also no gun powder
residue on his hands or head. What happened? Did he kill himself? Was he shot
first and then placed on his bed?
The TV series, “Superman” (1951-57)
made Reeves a star who was idolized by kids all across America. That
TV show was on hiatus and Reeves was said to begin shooting more
episodes. He was in financial debt and was living with Lenore who
was a tough party girl. He also broke off his relationship with Toni
who lavished him with expensive gifts (car). She was married to Eddie, a
former MGM studio executive. All of them have long since died.
The Reeves death has been covered over
the years with books and documentaries. Tabloid TV news also
spotlighted the supposed suicide/murder. There was even a movie made
called, “Hollywoodland” which starred Ben Affleck as Superman. The
TV show, “Unsolved Mysteries” covered it with host Robert Stack
(1990's) and then with Dennis Farina (2008).

'Hawaii Five-0' pre-empted this week by NCAA Basketball
HAWAII FIVE-0 on CBS. NCAA Basketball will pre-empt this Friday's episode March 17, 2017. The championship round airs from 8/7 p.m. to 11/10 p.m.
Did you watch last Friday's regular episode at 9/8 p.m.? Kono took control and kicked some "butt" over human trafficking on the island. I was surprised at Steve who always takes control over every investigation. He took a back seat as Kono angrily went after the bad guys. I loved it!
TV fans have been wondering what happened to Kono's husband Adam. Well, after he got out of prison. He cannot land a job. Kono revealed that they won't start a family until he has financial stability. By the way, I miss Dr. Max. Danno's cousin Eric does give us some comic relief. I hope they expand his role as medical examiner...,

'Feud: Bette and Joan' is filled with rumored gossip of two old movie stars
FEUD: BETTE AND JOAN on FX. The 8 episode TV series runs each Sunday night at 10/9 p.m. The first episode debuted on March 5, 2017 and nabbed 3.79 million TV viewers overall. It reached 0.8 million TV viewers with the all important 18 to 49 adult demographic. It stars Susan Sarandon (Bette Davis) and Jessica Lange (Joan Crawford).
A lot has been said about the Hollywood feud between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. Books have been written and documentaries were made on the 1962 horror film each had starred in called, "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" Both actresses took lower salaries in exchange for a percentage of the movie profits. The film was a box office smash earning an estimated $9-12 million world wide. The ticket sales in America nabbed $4 million. Bette Davis earned an Oscar nomination as best actress, but lost to Anne Bancroft for "The Miracle Worker."
The FX limited TV series, "Feud" is a behind-the-scenes look on the making of "Baby Jane." I watched the first two episodes and it is filled with complete gossip of some things that had never happened nor was said. What the filmmakers target perfectly though is the ageism of 1960's Hollywood. Davis and Crawford were considered "too old" for a major motion picture. "Baby Jane" was turned down by every studio except "Warner Brothers" who eventually distributed it.
What I liked is the performance of Susan Sarandon as Bette Davis. She interprets her but doesn't imitate. The constant smoking is there and she grabs the frustrated walk. She also gives us a hint of that famous laughing cackle. I also liked Judy Davis as gossip columnist Hedda Hopper. She is pretty funny. The soundtrack of 1960's jazz is near perfect in its' nostalgia. A musical era long gone. The Davis and Crawford feud will always be Hollywood lore whether true or not. Check it out if you want.
