THE FALLEN MAN. The skeleton of a dead man is found by climbers on the ledge of "Ship Rock" high above the Navajo desert. The man went missing 11 years earlier which Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn didn't solve. He comes out of retirement to find the truth & then someone is murdered. Jim Chee is shot during the investigation & his relationship with Janet Peete goes sour. Bernadette Manuelito is a new patrol officer who likes Jim & he discovers that he's attracted to her too. "Ship Rock" is sacred to the Navajo people, but non-Indians keep wanting to climb it which eventually turns deadly. A great, great read.
THE FALLEN MAN is the number #1 book on my list of Tony Hillerman's Navajo mysteries. He wrote 19 of them & it won't stay number #1 for long because I'm re-reading each book.
