Olivia Newton-John's "Physical" was a huge smash which remained at the number #1 spot for 10 weeks. It was part of the fitness craze that began after "Jane Fonda's Workout" VHS video hit shelves in January of 1982. It sold a record breaking 17 million copies after Fonda's book remained at the top of the best seller list for 2 years. Fonda made leg warmers popular as America went fitness.
VHS home video changed the entertainment industry with Movies, TV, Music & even Porn. MTV was growing & the music videos were mainly of live performances. Music acts were mainly seen on American Bandstand & on the TV syndicated smash "Solid Gold." VHS home video cassettes of films cost a whopping $39 bucks. Rentals were cheaper in those stores at the gas station. Remember? VHS home videos of films instantly sold more than the movie receipts at the theater box office.
I hate to admit it, but one of my favorite songs of 1982 was "Hard to say I'm sorry" from the film "Summer Lovers." It was the first R-rated film I went to. Hah! My absolute favorite song that year was "Abracadabra" by the Steve Miller Band."
