William Friedkin (Film Director) filed a lawsuit against Universal Pictures & Paramount Pictures because the studio executives were getting rid of the 1977 / 33 millimeter film SORCERER. Everything has gone digital & Friedkin didn't want his movie to be lost forever. The studios had to figure out who owned the movie that was released one month after STAR WARS 1977. Friedkin's movie flopped & it went to a terrible looking VHS home video tape in the 1980's.
SORCERER has become a cult classic & fans rejoiced when the studios released it on DVD & BluRay. There have been film screenings at festivals across the U.S. Friedkin traveled to some of these festivals to introduce his lost treasure. I just saw it on BluRay & it is really good. It is a remake of the 1953 classic THE WAGES OF FEAR starring Yves Montand. (I have to check that out).
William Friedkin is of course the director of such classics as THE FRENCH CONNECTION & THE EXORCIST. Please check out his "Deadline Hollywood" interview when SORCERER had gotten its' digital remaster. Way, way cool.
