According to "Box Office Mojo" that tracks movie box office receipts. THE REVENANT brought Leonardo DiCaprio fans to theaters with a weekend opening of $38 million. The western which is based on the novel had surprised critic's box office projections. It is also estimated that the latest STAR WARS grabbed $41 million over the weekend.
THE REVENANT along with THE HATEFUL EIGHT were two movies leaked online after DVD screeners were sent out to award voters. It was reported that $1 million internet viewers had already seen both films before they went into movie theaters. EIGHT has grabbed a total of $41 million.
