We all called him Coach Stephens when we were cross country runners at Pendleton High School at Pendleton, Oregon. I received my first PHS Letter from Coach when I beat a Senior running time during a track meet as a Sophomore. (It was a long time ago). If I remember correctly, Coach caused some controversy when he pushed for our cross country girls to be voted as Homecoming Queen & Princesses. Students were so angry, but it was based on voting by high school boys. I don't even remember who I voted for. Coach was always supportive even when I left PHS for CIS at Salem, Oregon my senior year. Rest in Peace. - Roscoe Pond
