MOTHER on CJ ENTERTAINMENT. It was praised by movie critics. It also broke box office records in Korea. It landed in at number #9 for 2009 grabbing $17.1 million. Magnolia Pictures nabbed the U.S. rights & opened it in limited release.
CJ Entertainment says, "Hye-ja is a long ago widowed mother who lives alone with her only son Do-jun.
Although Do-jun is 28 years old, his mental capacity is far below
someone his age and perhaps the reason for his many eccentric
personality traits. - Do-jun leaves a bar drunk and walks home. Along
the way home, he follows a school girl down an alley, before a huge rock
thrown his way chases him away. - The next day the police discover a murdered high school girl and a
golf ball with Do-jun's name inscribed on it near the crime scene. With
only this small bit of evidence, Do-jun is taken into custody and
promptly arrested for her murder."
The question is, "How far would you go for your only son?" This mother went to the edge of darkness in her community & in her mind to solve a murder. I couldn't believe she picked up that wrench, but she did. I also didn't think she raised a mentally slow son. His mind became clear when he was away from her control. It's a mystery & an excellent one at that.
