O.J.: MADE IN AMERICA on ESPN. Part One aired on ABC last weekend as the premiere for 2016. The rest of the episodes will air on ESPN. I had asked a friend to DVR it for me.
I just watched Part One and Part Two back-to-back. The producers are giving us a lot of new information as they delve into O.J. Simpson's complete life. It's interesting to see how they began this documentary with him sitting in prison. He answers questions about how he had just performed manual labor. It is a far cry from him golfing and living the high life at Brentwood, California with his $500,000 home.
Right from the start of O.J's football career. He created one face to the public which was very charismatic. He built that career as a "white" person which he did gloriously. When he sat with black athletes during the 1970's. A white person said, "Look at O.J. sitting with those Negroes." He was perceived as a white American who completely shunned the black community and racial inequality.
O.J., quit football and wanted to become an actor and commentator for ABC sports. He married Nicole Brown and then his public face began to crack. Part Two of this documentary shows us the violent and angry man underneath that handsome surface. His friends and those closest to him saw a very ugly side. He could no longer keep up that image he created for the world. His toxic relationship with Nicole eroded that image and he beat her to control something. (I will watch Part Three and Four of this documentary soon). Fascinating and sad.
