"Ben-Hur" opens in US theaters Aug. 19, 2016

BEN-HUR for MGM 2016. This is yet another remake of the epic story on the Tale of the Christ. MGM produced the 1925 version with Roman Navarro as Judah Ben-Hur. It is a classic silent film. MGM then dusted off the story and retold it with Charlton Heston as Judah in 1959. It was directed by the great William Wyler and won 11 Academy Awards. (A record at the time). It is 2016 and MGM has taken it down off the shelf again, but this time adding CGI effects.

DREAM-WORKS even created a good animated story called, "The Prince of Egypt" in 1998. Val Kilmer was Judah and Ralph Fiennes was Messala. The musical numbers were great too.

If I can look past Morgan Freeman in those dreadlocks. I can try and enjoy something new. I have to look past the face of Jesus too. The 1959 version never showed his face and when people looked at him. They saw something spiritual and God-like. Also, in this new version, Judah has a brother when he only had a sister (Tirza) in 1959. Messala was a boyhood best friend who was like a brother. This probably won't win any Oscars, but I'm sure MGM will make some money. The production budget climbed to $100 million.
