"48 Hours" is an investigative program that covers crime & murder in the United States. This episode was reported and narrated by Erin Moriarty.

Who killed Kay Wenal?.” Kay was at home when someone rang her door bell back in 2008. She answered the door and was punched in the face, knocking her to the floor. She got up and ran to the kitchen to grab her phone. The person followed her and slit Kay's throat with a sharp knife. The person then waited to inflict another knife slice to make sure she was dead. Blood spread all over the floor. Police investigators believe Kay's killer was a male who knew her intimately. He left no finger prints behind at the crime scene. That man walked outside the kitchen door and didn't take anything from the house. Investigators then uncovered Kay's secrets. They also looked at her four husbands and close friends. Her brutal murder has never been solved.

'Dateline' Did father intentionally kill his son inside a hot car?

"Dateline" (NBC) can be seen each Friday evening at 10/9 p.m. It aired in Albuquerque, NM at 9 p.m. (central time) on KOB 4. Last night's episode on Jan. 27, 2017 was called, “Unimaginable.” In the overnight TV ratings it garnered 3.78 million TV viewers overall. It reached 0.9 million TV viewers in the all important 18 to 49 adult demographic. "Blue Bloods" (CBS) grabbed 7.09 overall & 0.8 with adults (repeat). “20/20” (ABC) nabbed 5.58 overall & 0.9 with adults.

“Dateline” is an investigative program focusing on crime & murder in the United States. The reporter and narrator is Keith Morrison.

Unimaginable.” It was a scorching hot summer day. Ross Harris was supposed to bring his son Cooper to daycare. He went to work instead and left Cooper in the car. The boy died from the heat and was forgotten until 8 hours later. Police investigators looked at security footage. They saw Ross go to his car during his lunch break. He threw light bulbs into the front seat and then closed the door. The question is, “Didn't he see his son in the car?” or “Did he just leave him there to die?.” Police investigators saw it as child negligence and then, pre-meditated murder. It was brought out at his trial that Ross was living a double life. He had sex with other women outside his marriage and was addicted to porn. He also went after an underage female teen. Did he intentionally kill his son Cooper to continually live his hidden lifestyle?.

'Elephant Man' actor, Sir John Hurt dies at 77

John was crowned, "Sir, John Hurt" by the Queen of England for his incredible acting career. He came to the U.S., and appeared in the Sci-Fi classic, "Alien" 1979. His character was the first to die when an alien burst out of his stomach and scampered away. "Elephant Man" was his triumph on film. He portrayed a deformed male who was forced into the circus. He wrote beautiful and loving poetry to a theatre actress. She was fascinated and kissed him on his lips. All the while, he screamed, "I'm not an animal. I am a man!." A performance that landed him a best Actor Oscar nomination.

My favorite movie of Hurt is, "Scandal" 1989 which was based on the true story of the Profumo affair during a conservative England 1960's. Dr. Stephen Ward (Hurt) arranged for rich politicians to meet young women. It had great writing. When Stephen first see's Catherine Keeler dancing onstage. He says, "Well, I'm glad I came." The movie was released and some of the naked bodies were cut from the limited release in the U.S. The un-cut version is now on DVD. I watch it all the time.

'Perry Mason' actress, Barbara Hale dies at 94

If anybody knows me. I love a good murder mystery. I am coincidentally binge-watching the old TV series, "Perry Mason." It ran for 9 TV seasons and I'm in the middle of Season 8. Barbara Hale portrayed Perry's secretary Della Street and won a supporting-actress Emmy award. She and Raymond Burr (Perry Mason) re-prised their roles in the 1980's with 30 TV movies that played into the 1990's. Hale was a successful movie actress before she was cast as Street. I have too many favorite episodes of "Perry Mason." I did however, watch a lot of the episode called, "The case of the Crimson Kiss." A playboy is found dead by Perry and Della. His forehead has lip prints on it and two young women are drugged into a deep sleep. One of them was involved with the dead man. Check it out if you can, but only if you are partial to "black and white" Television shows.

'Hawaii Five-0' is a repeat this Friday Jan. 27, 2017

HAWAII FIVE-0 on CBS. This week's episode is called, "Hoa 'inea" that will air this Friday at 9/8 p.m. It is a Valentine's Day repeat from 2016 and it's pretty funny. The "Five-0" team will return next week with an all new episode.

IMDB says, "The team unravels a plot to murder a pair of unfaithful spouses, while each member also recounts their disastrous Valentine's Day mishaps."

Mary Tyler Moore dies at age 80

MARY TYLER MOORE (1936-2017). Unfortunately, I never a saw a single episode of,  "The Dick Van Dyke Show" (1961-66). I'll have to check it out after so many people are "binge" watching it in 2017. My parents used to watch the "Mary Tyler Moore" show (1970-77). I remember that Mary Richards had all these awful dates after working all day in the newsroom. My favorite episode was where that clown dressed as a peanut, was killed in a parade by an elephant. Mary was serious while everyone laughed. At the clown's funeral however, she couldn't control her own laughter.

I didn't recognize Moore in her role as the bitter mother named Beth, in the film, "Ordinary People" (1980). It was directed by Robert Redford and Moore received her only best actress Oscar nomination. (She lost to Sissy Spacek for "Coal Miner's Daughter."). Moore was so far removed from her comedic roles. It was a nice transition into a dramatic actress which was already there. We just didn't see it. I used to watch that movie only for Moore's performance. Rest in Peace...,

'Triumph the Insult Dog' attends Trump's Inauguration with spot on killer jokes

Donald Trump's Inauguration is over, but the jokes still continue. Conan O" Brien's "Triumph, the insult dog" traveled to the Inauguration to make fun of Trump and his mostly White supporters. They certainly can take a joke a lot better than Trump. The Vladimir Putin puppet joke was side splitting. This is all in good fun in this politically correct world.

'La La Land' nabs 14 Oscar nominations

The 89th annual Academy Awards (Oscar) will air Live on ABC-TV Sunday Feb. 26, 2017. It will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. The Oscar nominations were announced today (Tuesday) Jan. 24th. The musical, "La La Land" grabbed 14 nominations including Best Picture. It ties with "All About Eve" (1950) and "Titanic" (1997) with the most nominations in Oscar history.

The "Oscar So White" controversy of 2016 had no people of color in the major acting categories. Black performers have landed a total of 6 actor and actress nominations in 2017. Nowhere on the list is, "The Birth of a Nation" which was hailed last year as the Oscar front-runner. It received critical acclaim and snatched a $17 million distribution deal at "Sundance." It was written and directed by Nate Parker. Fox-Searchlight was preparing to promote the film before its' theatrical release in October 2016. Parker's 1999 rape allegations and acquittal surfaced in the media and controversy may have damaged the movie. Its' production budget was $8 million and it nabbed $15 million at North American theaters. Parker did receive a Directors Guild Award (DGA) nomination for a first-time director 2016.

'Anastasia: The Mystery of Anna' captures the enigma unsolved

Anastasia: The Mystery of Anna” was a 1986 made-for-TV-Mini-Series that starred Amy Irving. It ran over two nights and was a TV ratings hit for NBC. Nicholas Romanov II was the last Czar of Russia in 1918. Him and his family were executed by firing squad by a Communist party. A young woman jumped from a bridge in a suicide attempt a few years later. She was entered into an asylum who had no “name” and a gunshot wound in her hip. Rumors swirled that she was Anastasia Romanov who could be the lone survivor of the family massacre.

This story has been told in many documentaries and films. The 1956 fictional movie, “Anastasia” won Ingrid Bergman a best actress Oscar. It also starred Yul Brynner and Helen Hayes. The 1997 animated musical, “Anastasia” was also fictional and loosely based on the Romanov story. It starred the voices of Meg Ryan, John Cusack and Angela Lansbury. The NBC-TV show, “Unsolved Mysteries” covered Anastasia Romanov and rejected her claim that she was the long lost daughter of Nicholas.

I sat through the 3-hour DVD, “The Mystery of Anna” and decided that Anastasia's claim is a mystery that may never be resolved. Even after the descendants of the Romanov family rejected her. She remains an enigma who might have fooled a lot people. Her recollections of the life she may have led did seem quite real. Check out TV mini-series if you can. It's a mystery...,

'The Night Of' receives DGA nomination & HBO hopeful for 2nd TV season

The Directors Guild Award (DGA) nominations have been announced. Steven Zaillian received a nomination for "The Night Of" with the episode called, "The Beach." (HBO). It is for outstanding directorial achievement with "Movies for Television and Mini-Series."

Steven Zaillian’s Directorial Team is below:
  • Unit Production Manager: Greer Yeaton
  • First Assistant Director: Michael Steele
  • Second Assistant Director: Ginger Gonzalez
  • Second Second Assistant Director: Rachel Iovine
  • Location Manager: Shane Haden
"Deadline Hollywood" reports that HBO is open to a 2nd TV season with "The Night Of" and a 3rd TV season of "True Detective." Nothing has been written yet, but both TV shows had landed good TV ratings and rave reviews. "Night" was certainly a harrowing nightmare for a college kid who had to survive the court system of wrongful imprisonment. (I was glued to every single episode).

TV Season Finale 'Shooter' Tuesday Jan. 17, 2017

SHOOTER on USA. The finale of the 1st TV season is called, "Primer Contact" that will air this Tuesday at 10/9 p.m. It has been renewed for a 2nd season after some solid TV ratings. It certainly has been helped by its' lead-in of "Wrestling." (I must say, Ryan Phillipe breathes new life into Bob Lee Swagger. It works because we get to see Bobby's full character over 10 episodes. He's smarter than your average sniper. It's the best action TV show to come along in years.)

TV Promo says, "Bob Lee, Julie, Nadine and Isaac work together to breach the Russian embassy, save Mary, shut down the conspiracy and prove Bob Lee innocent."

Directors Guild Award nominations announced 2017

Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Feature Film for 2016
  • Damien Chazelle "La La Land" (Lionsgate)
  • Garth Davis "Lion" (The Weinstein Company)
  • Barry Jenkins "Moonlight" (A24)
  • Kenneth Lonergan "Manchester by the Sea" (Amazon Studios and Roadside Attractions)
  • Denis Villeneuve "Arrival" (Paramount Pictures)
Outstanding Directorial Achievement of a First-Time Feature Film Director for 2016
  • Garth Davis "Lion" (The Weinstein Company)
  • Kelly Fremon Craig "The Edge of Seventeen" (STX Entertainment)
  • Tim Miller "Deadpool" (Twentieth Century Fox)
  • Nate Parker "The Birth of a Nation" (Fox Searchlight Pictures)
  • Dan Trachtenberg "10 Cloverfield Lane" (Paramount Pictures)
Nate Parker's "The Birth of a Nation" was virtually shut out of every award nomination for 2016. His film was the early Oscar front runner, one year ago, when it debuted at "Sundance" to rave reviews and a $17 million distribution deal. An old rape charge and acquittal from Nate's college days surfaced and damaged the film. It opened in theaters last October 2016 nabbing $15 million on an $8 million dollar budget. (I saw it 4 times and glad Parker was nominated). The 69th annual DGA awards will be handed out Saturday Feb. 4, 2017.
