'Elephant Man' actor, Sir John Hurt dies at 77

John was crowned, "Sir, John Hurt" by the Queen of England for his incredible acting career. He came to the U.S., and appeared in the Sci-Fi classic, "Alien" 1979. His character was the first to die when an alien burst out of his stomach and scampered away. "Elephant Man" was his triumph on film. He portrayed a deformed male who was forced into the circus. He wrote beautiful and loving poetry to a theatre actress. She was fascinated and kissed him on his lips. All the while, he screamed, "I'm not an animal. I am a man!." A performance that landed him a best Actor Oscar nomination.

My favorite movie of Hurt is, "Scandal" 1989 which was based on the true story of the Profumo affair during a conservative England 1960's. Dr. Stephen Ward (Hurt) arranged for rich politicians to meet young women. It had great writing. When Stephen first see's Catherine Keeler dancing onstage. He says, "Well, I'm glad I came." The movie was released and some of the naked bodies were cut from the limited release in the U.S. The un-cut version is now on DVD. I watch it all the time.
