48 HOURS on CBS. The 2016 episode was
called, “Trail of Tears.” Rhonda Casto fell 150 feet to her death
off a narrow trail inside the “Columbia River Gorge” forest
(Oregon). Her boyfriend Steven Nichols was with her and claimed that
it was an accident. Police investigators called it murder and Steven
was arrested. There was no evidence of him physically pushing Rhonda
over that cliff.
Steven has pleaded guilty to criminal
negligent homicide 2017. Investigators found that he increased
Rhonda's life insurance policy to $1 million a few months before her
death in 2009. He was arrested in 2015 who was living in China with
him and Rhonda's daughter. As part of his guilty plea. He got 3 years
probation with 19 months in jail already served while awaiting trial.

Rhonda's family claimed that she wanted to end her relationship with
Steven. He claimed otherwise because she was waiting for a wedding
proposal. He said he was gonna propose soon, but she fell off that
cliff and he never got a chance to.
