POLICE ACADEMY from WARNER BROS. (1984). The low-brow-comedy film was about police academy misfits. It was trashed by movie critics, but had become a box office smash. The production budget was $4.5 million and made $81 million in the U.S. The foreign box office climbed to $68.6 million and the worldwide gross hit $149.8 million.
Home Video Tapes (VHS) was created and had swept America by storm. "Police Academy" became even more popular with home viewing.
6 more "Police Academy" sequels were made. In my opinion, the first movie was the best and the funniest....
Actress - Marion Ramsey portrayed cadet Laverne Hooks in 6 of the 7 films. She has died and was 73. Laverne had a soft-spoken voice who would come into her own in the series. She was so funny. RIP....
