1986 Los Angeles Murder Mystery 'The Morning After' with Jane Fonda

THE MORNING AFTER from LORIMAR PICTURES (1986). The average movie ticket price from that year was $3.71. The production budget climbed to $15 million. It grabbed $25.1 million at the U.S. Box Office. It never opened in the Foreign markets. Jane Fonda had drawing power as an actress and a movie star. This was her 7th Oscar nomination as Best Actress.

Fonda portrays Alex, but her actress stage-name is "Vivica." She is a bleach-blonde alcoholic who is in-between jobs in Los Angeles. On Thanksgiving Day - She wakes up with a massive hangover who lays next to a sleazy male photographer. He has been murdered by a knife in the chest. She thinks it's a joke at first, but reality and that piercing hangover wakes her up.

She doesn't remember anything that happened the night before. The first phone call is to a guy named Jackie who tells her to call the police. She doesn't and tries to go on the run before the police actually show up. By circumstance - she meets a former police officer who drives her back to the crime scene.

Fonda nearly gives a comic performance here when her character meets this former policeman. She trusts him as she begins to cover her tracks from the night before. Through it all - she's got to have a drink because she can't remember.

I will not give anything away.... I missed one big clue when I first saw this. The ending was a total surprise. Check it out. Plus, this is so mid-1980's. I love it!
