The Academy asked Will Smith to leave 'Oscars' who refused & now he faces disciplinary action
The Academy Award 50 Governors voted to seek disciplinary action against Will Smith. After he physically assaulted Chris Rock during the live Oscar telecast on Sunday March 27, 2022. The Academy revealed today that they had asked Smith to leave the ceremony - but he refused.
The Academy will give Will Smith 15 days to respond in "writing." He could face explusion from the Academy according to the rules and regulations of the organization.
Below is the statment sent out by the Academy:
"The Board of Governors today initiated disciplinary proceedings against Mr. Smith for violations of the Academy’s Standards of Conduct, including inappropriate physical contact, abusive or threatening behavior, and compromising the integrity of the Academy."
"Consistent with the Academy’s Standards of Conduct, as well as California law, Mr. Smith is being provided at least 15 days’ notice of a vote regarding his violations and sanctions, and the opportunity to be heard beforehand by means of a written response. At the next board meeting on April 18, the Academy may take any disciplinary action, which may include suspension, expulsion, or other sanctions permitted by the Bylaws and Standards of Conduct."
"Mr. Smith’s actions at the 94th Oscars were a deeply shocking, traumatic event to witness in-person and on television. Mr. Rock, we apologize to you for what you experienced on our stage and thank you for your resilience in that moment. We also apologize to our nominees, guests and viewers for what transpired during what should have been a celebratory event."
"Things unfolded in a way we could not have anticipated. While we would like to clarify that Mr. Smith was asked to leave the ceremony and refused, we also recognize we could have handled the situation differently."
The Academy Award leadership 'Outraged' by Will Smith on Oscar night
The fall-out continues over Will Smith and his physical assualt against Chris Rock on Oscar night. The Academy Award leadership members are said to be, "upset and outraged" by the live incident in front of millions of TV viewers.
The Academy President David Rubin sent out a letter to the "board of governors" (read below) and will meet on Wednesday March 30, 2022 to discuss the situation.
Dear Members,
"Sunday’s telecast of the 94th Oscars was meant to be a celebration of the many individuals in our community who did incredible work this past year. We are upset and outraged that those moments were overshadowed by the unacceptable and harmful behavior on stage by a nominee."
"To be clear, we condemn Mr. Smith’s actions that transpired Sunday night."
"As outlined in our bylaws, the Academy’s Board of Governors will now make a determination on appropriate action for Mr. Smith. As governed by California law regarding members of nonprofit organizations like the Academy, and set forth in our Standards of Conduct, this must follow an official process that will take a few weeks."
"We will continue to update you on any developments, but we also ask that you respect your Board, Academy staff and the process as this unfolds so it can work in the considered way it was intended and mandated."
"Please trust that the Board of Governors will conduct this process in a manner that is both expedient and respectful of all involved while maintaining the standards of the Academy."

SAG-AFTRA says 'Unacceptable' after Will Smith 'slapped' Chris Rock on live Oscar telecast
The 2022 Academy Awards (ABC) aired last night on Sunday March 27, 2022.... I have not watched the award show since 2010. I woke up Monday morning to "trending" talk on social media about Will Smith.
He won the Oscar as best actor for "King Richard" (2021). That moment was over-shadowed by Will himself. Earlier in the live Oscar telecast. He walked on-stage and physically "slapped" comedian Chris Rock across the face.
Chris was presenting an award who made a joke aimed at Will's wife Jada Pinkett Smith. TV viewers thought it was a comedy sketch at first. That was until Will can be heard screaming a "curse" word at Chris from his audience seat. Will apologized to the Academy during his winning speech. He didn't apologize to Chris directly.
The Academy sent out a statment via social media on "Twitter." They said, "The Academy condemns the actions of Mr. Smith at last night’s show."
The SAG-AFTRA union has sent out their own message about last night's incident.
"As the union representing presenters and other performers working on the Oscars, SAG-AFTRA is focused on ensuring our members always work in a safe environment."
"Violence or physical abuse in the workplace is never appropriate and the union condemns any such conduct. The incident involving Will Smith and Chris Rock at last night's Academy Awards was unacceptable."
"We have been in contact with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and ABC about this incident, and will work to ensure this behavior is appropriately addressed. SAG-AFTRA does not comment on any pending member disciplinary process."

Classic 'Dateline' in shocking episode 'Do No Harm' with Lestor Holt from 2016
DATELINE on NBC. The episode is called, "Do No Harm" that aired on Jan. 17, 2016. I thought I was a hardcore TV fan until I missed a few episodes. I don't know how I skipped this segment - but I did.... I'm glad I caught up with it.
Lestor Holt narrates "Do No Harm" which tells the story about a renowned doctor who specialized in cancer diagnosis.... Monica was an active and healthy woman in her late 40's. She went in for an annual check up and this doctor told her she may have cancer. It was a total shock because her brother had lung cancer. Her sister also had breast cancer. Monica was advised to take heavy medications before the cancer took over. The doctor also wanted her to be on a lifetime treatment involving chemotheraphy plus medication. The cost would be an annual bill of $250,000.
Then one day - Monica tripped and broke her leg. The doctor was on vacation and a different physician looked at her health charts. She was told that she never had cancer.
I will not give anything away.... This doctor had other patients whom he told they had cancer too. Several of these patients died.... Is this murder?

ABC 20/20 'Chippendales Murder' has Greed, Racism, Money, Sex and a Hitman
20/20 on ABC. I usually don't watch this crime show because it is always over the top. Plus, too many hosts as narrators. (Just my criticsm. TV fans watch for that very reason). There are some intriguing episodes though.
"Chippendales Murder" was the season premiere episode that aired last Fall on Oct. 8, 2021. It tells the story of how the male-strip dance craze began at Los Angeles in 1979. Steve Banerjee created "Chippendales" and turned it into a famous brand-name. It all ended for Steve who committed suicide in 1993.
The name of the "Chippendales" still rolls on.
I won't give anything away.... There is a dark side. It involves money, greed and a hitman. There is a murder and also an attempted murder.
- A film is in the works starring Dev Patel who will portray Steve Bannerjee. It is still in development with screenwriters.
- A British documentary was released through Amazon called, "Curse of the Chippendales."
- The TV show, "The FBI Files" has an episode called, "Backstage Murder."

Classic 'Dateline' episode 'Vengeance' with Lestor Holt 2012
DATELINE on NBC. The episode called, "Vengeance" premiered on April 6, 2012. It has been a decade since it aired and I cannot believe I missed it....
Lestor Holt narrated this segment about Jerry Ramrattan and Seemona Sumasar who seemed to be the happiest couple. Their relationship ended when Seemona received a phone call from Jerry's wife. The nightmare began and it nearly ruined their lives. It involves, lies, rape, police arrests, conspiracy and slander. Unbelievable but true.

1982 Mystery & Suspense film 'Missing' with a powerful Jack Lemmon
MISSING from POLYGRAM PICTURES (1982). This was adapted from the novel, "The Execution of Charles Horman: An American Sacrifice" (1978) by Thomas Hauser. The production budget climbed to $9.5 million and grossed $16 million at the U.S. box office.
It received 4 Oscar nominations including Best Picture, Best Actor (Jack Lemmon), Best Actress (Sissy Spacek) and won for Best Adapted Screenplay.
Charles "Charlie" Horman (Jack Shea) portrays an American Journalist. He disappears in the country of Chile after a 1973 over throw "Coup" attempt of the current President - Salvador Allende. That "Coup" was backed by the U.S. Government... The movie begins when Charlie goes missing.
Edmund "Ed" Horman (Jack Lemmon) is the father of Charlie who travels to Santiago, Chile to search for his son. Beth Horman (Sissy Spacek) is already in Chile who is the wife of Charlie. Both Ed and Beth have a troubled relationship, but soon stand together in their search.
Charlie was targeted because he may have known too much about this "Coup" attempt. Rumors swirl on who abducted him. Ed and Beth run into road blocks at every turn which includes the U.S. embassy at Chile. Dead Americans begin to pile up, but not one of them is Charlie.
I will not give anything away.... The mystery here is very powerful and frustrating. The ending will make you angry... Ed and Beth find no answers on what happened to Charlie who went missing without a trace. The important question is who was behind the abduction of Charlie? Was it the Chilean government? Was it the U.S. goverment? Or was it both?
Screen legend Jack Lemmon gives a powerful performance here. He plays a desperate father who will never know the complete truth about what happened to his son.

Warner Bros. 'The Batman' reaches $134 million domestically & $258 million world-wide
THE BATMAN from WARNER BROS. The studio released the complete box office numbers for the week-ending March 4-6, 2022. The reboot of this popular franchise grabbed $134.1 million in its' first week of release. That incudes all of the preview screenings.
The Foreign box office total nabbed $124.2 million. That brings the world-wide total to $258,200,000 million. It may look to dominate the next weekend of March 11, 2022. There are no other big theatrical releases.
The production budget climbed to $100 million plus the marketing blitz that reached $30 million.

Film Review 'The Batman' is dark noir at its' best with 4-out-4 Stars*
THE BATMAN from WARNER BROS. The film has nabbed $21 million in preview screenings before its' Friday release date (4/4/2022). It opens wide in over 4,000 movie screens across the U.S. I watched it in an IMAX theater at Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The newest "Batman" clocks in at nearly 3-hours long, but it didn't seem that way. Gotham City is a dark place and the citizens are about to elect a new mayor. The current mayor wants to be re-elected, but is murdered by a serial killer. A "riddle" is left behind for 'The Batman" who helps the police. He is known as a "freak" in a black costume. He's also angry and bitter over the loss of his parents who were murdered too. Their deaths remain a mystery. That is until 'The Batman" begins to unravel those riddles which come with each new murder.
I won't give anything away.... Because - There are several mysteries to be solved. The film is shot mainly at night and we are introduced to Gotham's popular characters. Catwoman - The Penguin - The Riddler - Alfred. It looks and sounds like "Two-Face" who shows up to talk with "The Riddler." You decide....
Robert Pattinson portrays Bruce Wayne and he holds this movie together. He's got to solve those killings and why he's being targeted by "The Riddler." This reminds me of the 1993 animated film, "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm." The Joker turns Gotham City against Batman who has to turn everything around. It's the same here and it's fun to watch. Check it out....

Warner Bros. 'The Batman' premiere's in Korea with $1.7 Million
THE BATMAN from WARNER BROS. The critics are raving about the new "Batman" movie. The production budget reached $100 million... It opened in Korea 24-Hours-Ago and racked up a hefty $1.7 million... The studio stopped the film's release in the country of Russia after their military invasion of Ukraine. (The new release date will be determined later).
