Classic Movie Flashback 'The Killing Fields' 1984 with Sam Waterston

THE KILLING FIELDS from WARNER BROS. (1984). The production budget climbed to $14.4 million and made $34.7 million at the box office. 

It tells the true story of two journalists in the country of Cambodia trapped in a Civil War. They have to work and survive in war-torn regions. Sydney Schanberg (Sam Waterston) is an American journalist who covered news in that country. Dith Pran (Haing S. Ngor) is an interpreter associated with the New York Times newspaper. It is their strong friendship which anchors this powerful story.

The film was nominated with 7 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Actor (Sam Waterston) and Best Supporting Actor (Haing S. Ngor).

It won 3 Oscars including Best Cinematography (Chris Menges), Best Film Editing (Jim Clark) and Best Supporting Actor (Haing S. Ngor). He became the second Asian male to win an Oscar.

Sadly - Ngor was murdered outside of his home in Chinatown at Los Angeles 1996. It was an attempted robbery by three gang members.

"The Killing Fields" 1984 is now on Blu-Ray.
