New Documentary 'Brats' with Andrew McCarthy streaming on HULU June 13, 2024

THE BRAT PACK documentary streaming on HULU (June 13, 2024). I remember this because I was a mere 19-years-old in 1985. I was familiar with the original, "The Rat Pack" that was a Hollywood movie star group of the 1950's. They gathered together at the home of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. Frank Sinatra, Spencer Tracy, Judy Garland, Kate Hepburn were in the group.

Sinatra would later be the leader of the "Pack" heading into the 1960's. Dean Martin, Peter Lawford, Sammy Davis Jr and Shirley Maclaine partied together in Las Vegas. It ended in 1962.

The New York magazine published the article of a new pack of Hollywood stars called, "The Brat Pack" 1985. Young actors and actresses starred in films together and later partied as friends. It consisted of Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy.

The name, "The Brat Pack" was born and that label followed these young stars throughout the 1980's and 90's. Andrew McCarthy explores what actually happened when that article was published in 1985. He directs this new documentary and interviews those actors and actresses who were impacted by, "The Brat Pack" label.

Classic Movie Flashback 'Crocodile Dundee' 1986 with Paul Hogan

CROCODILE DUNDEE distributed by PARAMOUNT PICTURES (1986). The production budget climbed to $8 million and grossed a massive $328 million at the world-wide box office. It would place second behind "Top Gun" (Tom Cruise) as the highest grossing movie of the year. It's also the biggest non-American hit from the country of Australia.

The original film screenplay was co-written by John Cornell, Ken Shadie & Paul Hogan. It was nominated for an Oscar as Best Original Screenplay. Hogan plays the lead role of Michael J. "Crocodile" Dundee.

The story surrounds Dundee from Australia's wild outback. He becomes a "Fish-Out-Of-Water" when he travels to New York City. He's still dressed in his outback leather plus the animal-tooth-threaded-hat. Dundee is also a nice guy surrounded by negative & cynical New York people.

The story has been done before in Classic Hollywood films. The "Fish-Out-Of-Water" human being. Dundee plays the straight Australian accent and doesn't change. He's surrounded by stilted Americans and is a breath-of-fresh-air. The film was number #1 at the U.S box office for 9 straight weeks. It is a hilarious movie.

There were 2 sequels made "Crocodile Dundee II" (1988) and "Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles" (2001). Neither reached the success of the original movie.

Below is the re-mastered original trailer from 1986.

France Trailer 'The Count of Monte Cristo' coming June 28, 2024

THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO from PATHE' (2024). This French version was screened Out-of-Competition at the recent Cannes Film Festival. The world premiere received a 12-Minute standing ovation.

It's based on the famous novel written back in 1844. I read it as a kid. It has been adapted for film dozens of times and in several languages. That includes the many TV adaptations.

Since I love Classic movies from the Studio system. My favorite is the 1934 version with Robert Donat. I've seen it way too many times. Plus, I totally enjoy the "Lux Radio Theater" version with Robert Montgomery.

Synopsis, "Betrayed by his friends and convicted by a corrupt magistrate, the sailor Edmond Dantès is condemned to life imprisonment; upon his escape, he obtains a sizeable fortune and returns to France disguised as the 'Count of Monte Cristo', an identity through which he plans to exact vengeance on those who ruined him."

Pathe' - Will release this newest version from France on June 28, 2024. The trailer looks fantastic!

Mystery Podcast '20/20' ABC episode 'Forever 17'

20/20 on ABC. The episode is called, "Forever 17." The mystery surrounds two teen girls who have reached the age of seventeen. They were heading to a "birthday party" and took a wrong turn on a dirt back road. It was after 11:00 p.m. The car they were driving was found at a secluded intersection. Both girls were found in the trunk and were shot "execution" style in the heads.

Police believe that the girls were shot somewhere else and brought to that intersection. There was no evidence near or around the car. The only thing was an empty gunshot casing found on the body of one of the girls. The trail went completely cold.

Classic Movie Flashback 'The Man From Snowy River' 1982 with Tom Burlinson

THE MAN FROM SNOWY RIVER distributed by 20th CENTURY FOX (1982). It's from the country of Australia. The production budget climbed to a mere $3.5 million. It went onto gross $50 million at the world wide box office. (Movie Ticket Price $2.94 for 1982).

The story surrounds Jim (Tom Burlinson) whose father is accidentally killed. He is left alone to fight for himself and the mountain home where he grew up. A pack of horses called the "Brumby Mob" is led by a black stallion. A new prize horse breaks free from a sprawling ranch on Jim's watch. The horse joins that mob. A money reward is offered for the capture of this prize animal. Can Jim ride and redeem himself?

The producers had wanted a Hollywood movie star in the film to attract film audiences. They approached Robert Mitchum who turned it down. They finally cast Kirk Douglas as the twin brothers "Harrison" and "Spur." In his Autobiography - Douglas claimed he was not liked on the film-set because he was the only American. The movie had an all Australian cast.

The western was so popular that a sequel was made called, "Return To Snowy River" (1988). Douglas didn't return as Brian Dennehy replaced him. It was not as commercially popular making only $13 million on a $7 million budget. Both movies were popular on VHS Home Rentals.

This Western lands at number #10 on my favorite films of the 1980's.

"The Man From Snowy River" was huge on the VHS Home Rentals chart. It went onto grab a wider audience with DVD sales.

DRIVING MISS DAISY distributed by WARNER BROS (1989). It's based on the theatre play of the same name. The production budget climbed to $7.5 million and grossed a whopping $145 million at the box office. It stars Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman. He performed in the Off-Broadway production.

The story surrounds Daisy (Tandy) who is getting older and needs a car driver. She is set in her ways who likes to "drive" her own life and the others around her. Her son hires Hoke (Freeman) as the male driver who matches Daisy with each temperament. They become "best" friends through 25 years of bickering.

The movie received a total of 9 Oscar nominations. It won Best Picture - Best Actress - Best Make-Up - Best Screenplay.

At the time - Activists including black film director Spike Lee didn't like the movie. His film, "Do the Right Thing" was nominated the same year as Best Screenplay & Best Supporting Actor. They didn't like a black person being a "servant" to a white woman. Lee was very outspoken about it in several angry interviews to the media.

"Daisy" has spawned dozens of theater revivals since the film's release back in 1989. That includes Broadway.

Porn Star 'Stormy Daniels' testifies in Donald Trump 'Hush Money' Court Trial

GLENN KIRSCHNER on YouTube BECAUSE JUSTICE MATTERS 2024. Donald Trump is charged with 34 felony counts in New York for falsifying business records to cover up stories before the 2016 Presidential Election. One story is the $130,000 "hush money" payment to Stormy Daniels (porn star) who had a sexual one night stand with Trump in 2006. He denies it.

The checks signed by Trump to his former lawyer Michael Cohen were shown in court. The money totaled up to $130,000.

The prosecution showed the jury how Trump used the "National Enquirer" magazine to "Catch & Kill" negative stories about him. The magazine would then target his political enemies (Hillary Clinton). He was great friends with the former owner of the  "National Enquirer." His name is David Pecker.

Pecker would buy exclusive rights to stories by women about Trump. He bought the story in 2016 from Karen McDougal (Former Playboy Playmate) who claimed she had a months long affair with Trump. He denies it.

Several news organizations were seeking the stories from these women (Stormy Daniels & Karen McDougal). The prosecution claims they were paid off with "hush money."

Stormy Daniels took the witness stand and described how she met Trump. She also detailed her sexual encounter with him and it got graphic and unsettling. She claims too that a man had threatened her in a parking lot if she spoke about her and Trump.

The defense lawyers will continue their cross-examination of Stormy in court on Thursday May 9, 2024.

Classic Movie Flashback 'Arthur' 1981 with Dudley Moore

ARTHUR from WARNER BROS. pictures (1981). The production budget climbed to $7 million and grossed $95 million at the box office. The comedy opened poorly but over the next few months. It became a very popular film by word-of-mouth. That doesn't happen in 2024 as movies count only on their first weekend receipts.

The story surrounds a millionaire named "Arthur" (Dudley Moore) who is a self-proclaimed playboy. He is about to be married to a woman whom he doesn't love. It is arranged by his family. Arthur meets a working-class waitress (Liz Minelli) and falls in love with her. His family threatens to cut him off without a penny if he doesn't follow through with the arranged marriage.

Dudley Moore portrays Arthur as a complete falling down/funny drunk. It is a great comedic performance that earned Moore a Best Actor Oscar Nomination.

"Arthur" was so popular that a sequel was planned, "Arthur 2: On the Rocks" (1988). It bombed at the box office and with critics. The 2011 remake with Russell Brand was also a bomb.

"Arthur" was nominated with four Academy Awards including Best Actor (Moore) and Best Screenplay (Steve Gordon). The Oscars won with Best Supporting Actor (Sir John Gielgud) and Best Original Song "Arthur's Theme" performed by Christopher Cross.

The comedy film is on Blu-Ray. You can also watch it "Free" online.

Below is the re-mastered Original 1981 Trailer.

YouTube launch of Radio Western 'Four Days To Albuquerque'

FOUR DAYS TO ALBUQUERQUE from ROSCOE POND. This is adapted from my Western Movie Screenplay that I had written a few years back. I originally wanted it to be a Western TV Pilot. It was later expanded into a full length movie. Then, I decided to reformat it into a Radio drama so that I could get producers interested.

KUNM Radio had listened to my finished production and asked if they could broadcast it over the Southwest airwaves. "Earth Rock Radio" also wanted to air it too (2023). This production reached quite a few listeners.

The story surrounds two Navajo Clan brothers who are kidnapped by the sheriff of Albuquerque. They travel through a mountain owned by a Navajo Witch. The race is on to see who will survive in this mysterious mountain.

I launched my Radio Western on "YouTube" (2024). I added a new poster and a wave-length element which makes the sound pop. You can listen in HD. I'm proud of it and hope to get film producers interested. Enjoy....

"If you have SAG-AFTRA friends who have recently moved to our market, you may want to encourage them to transfer their membership to New Mexico, as they won’t get our local mailings and announcements until they are registered here."

"At the end of January, when our legislature was in session, I had the privilege of meeting many of our state politicians and being presented to the House, thanks to our fabulous legislative committee chair, Bronwen Murray, who also set up a one-on-one for me with our governor, Michelle Lujan Grisham. We are fortunate to have a governor who is responsive to our industry and wants to see it grow."

"We are planning more events to build our community and more opportunities for you to learn and grow. Look out for announcements soon."

"I wish you success as you pursue your dreams. May there be many days on set in your future!"

Cheers,

Classic '48 Hours' podcast 'Tacoma Confidential' 2004 with Bill Lagatutta

48 HOURS on CBS. This Classic episode from 2004 is called, "Tacoma Confidential." I actually missed this segment.

Tacoma, Washington. The police chief's wife was divorcing him after 11 years of marriage. He abused her and didn't like to lose his control of her. So, he shot her in a parking lot and then shot himself. He died on the spot and she survived a little longer. A website published their divorce papers and it revealed police corruption, fraud, black mail and intimidation.... Check it out.
