NOTE: I watched it last weekend and I loved it. The running time is more than 3 hours long. It went by fast... Even though it's about the one family in Pandora. It is also surrounded by the protection of ocean waters and its' sea animals. The underwater scenes are visually stunning. The connection between the land people and ocean creatures is very spiritual. I want to see it again. RP

It's hard to believe that the TV-Sitcom "Cheers" has been off the air since 1993. It had premiered on NBC back in 1982. It was almost cancelled after the first TV season grabbing only a 10.9 million overall rating. (Networks would kill for that TV rating today). By the final 11th TV season. It nabbed a massive 28.2 million overall rating. Of course, this was back when there were only 3 major TV networks (ABC-CBS-NBC). The FOX network began in 1986.
Long before the Internet. TV syndication channels made deals with the 3 major networks to re-air TV shows. "Cheers" began a syndication run in 1987. It grabbed 83 million viewers around the world over the next few years.
Kirstie Alley joined the "Cheers" cast in the 6th TV season. She remained until the final 11th season. Alley became a household name and won a 1991 comedy Emmy for portraying Rebecca Howe. The 1993 season finale episode of "Cheers" grabbed a whopping 80 million TV viewers.
"Cheers" was Alley's big break and has done a lot of work since that show. Including, "Veronica's Closet" (TV) and the "Look Who's Talking" film franchise.

Irene Cara has passed away (2022).... She was a child performer who came to prominence playing the title movie role in "Sparkle" (1976). It was a rags to riches story about three black female singers. The production budget climbed to $1 million. It made $4 million at the box office. It has since become a "Cult" favorite.
Cara then starred in "Fame" (1980) portraying "Coco" who is a triple-threat singer, dancer and actress. She sang the title song on the movie soundtrack that hit number #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also won the Oscar as Best Original Song. The film was a box office hit with $42 million against an $8 million budget.... The film spawned the TV series "Fame" which Cara never appeared in.
Then came the film "Flashdance" (1983) starring Jennifer Beals which Cara didn't appear in either. She co-wrote and performed the title song that hit #1 for 6 consecutive weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It won the Oscar as Best Original Song and earned Irene the Grammy award for Best Female Pop Vocal performance.
"Flashdance" was made on a soft $7 million budget. It became a worldwide box office smash grabbing $200 million. The soundtrack sold out and more copies had to be shipped. It spawned 4 singles and sold 20 million "vinyl" albums. It would become one of the top selling soundtracks in history.
The movie starred unknown actors and surprised the film industry by taking off at the box office. It was revolutionary for its' time with music videos inserted into the film story line. For the next 7 years that became a trend. Movies had incorporated music video-type songs in each story line.
MTV and VH-1 rotated the music videos of "Flashdance... What a Feeling" and "Maniac" 24 hours a day on cable TV. It became a "phenomenon" for 1983.
RIP Irene Cara....

Santa Fe, New Mexico. Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was shot and killed on the "Rust" western movie set in 2021. Actor and producer Alec Baldwin pulled the trigger of that gun aimed in the direction of Halyna... The Santa Fe county sheriff's office has handed over their 550 page investigation to the Santa Fe district attorney. It doesn't look good for all involved because the safety regulations weren't followed at the start of production.
The biggest mistake was hiring the inexperienced armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed who handled prop guns. Real bullets were discharged on the film set.!! Safety concerns from the production team were completely ignored. It was chaos right from the start.
