UPDATE classic 'Dateline' episode 'Cold Blooded' from 2018

DATELINE on NBC. The Dennis Murphy segment, "Cold Blooded" continues to play out in a Florida courtroom (2023). 

Daniel Markel was gunned down and killed inside of his home garage. He was in a bitter divorce and child custody battle. His ex-wife Wendi Adelson has a mother Donna and brother Charlie. They both hated Daniel. 

Police detectives arrested Luis Rivera and Sigfredo Garcia who say they were hired to kill Daniel. Katherine Magbanua used to work for Charlie Adelson. She was paid by him to find a gunman to take out Daniel.

The "Cold Blooded" episode had ended with no arrests of the Adelson family in connection with the gun-for-hire.

That has all changed in 2023.... Rivera, Garcia and Magbanua were convicted. Charlie Adelson was also convicted as the man behind the gun-for-hire. His mom Donna tried to flee America for Vietnam with a one-way-plane-ticket. She was arrested and awaits trial for conspiracy to kill Daniel.

As for Wendi Adelson. She claims that she didn't know about her brother's plan to kill Daniel. In a police interview. She claimed that she drove to the crime scene right after Daniel was killed. Did she know about the conspiracy to murder her ex-husband?

The "Cold Blooded" video has been taken down by NBC and it is not streaming on the network's podcast episodes.

Classic '48 Hours' with Troy Roberts 'Secrets and Lies on Grapevine Lake' 2005

48 HOURS on CBS. The network is uploading classic episodes to their "YouTube" channel. Most segments have reached 1 million views each from fans like me. 

"Secrets and Lies on Grapevine Lake" (2005) is one of my absolute favorite segments reported by Troy Roberts who is no longer with "48 Hours." This episode has been taken down online until recently. 

"Thank You" CBS for streaming classic episodes. "48 Hours" began in the late 1980's as a two day special report with Dan Rather. 

It evolved into "48 Hours Mystery" focusing on crime and murder. Troy Roberts reported on some fascinating cases.

Classic Movie Flashback 'For Your Eyes Only' James Bond 1981

FOR YOUR EYES ONLY from UNITED ARTISTS (1981). The production budget climbed to $28 million. It grabbed $195.3 million at the world-wide box office. This was the 12th film in the James Bond (007) series. It starred Roger Moore in the title role.

Short Synopsis, "James Bond attempts to locate a missile command system while becoming tangled in a web of deception spun by rival Greek businessmen along with Melina Havelock, a woman seeking to avenge the murder of her parents."

It had received mixed to positive reviews upon its' release. The film has become popular over the years and fans have ranked it 11 out of 25 Bond movies. This was my first Bond experience in a theater and it is one of my top favorites.

There were only three major TV networks during the early 1980's (ABC-CBS-NBC). "For Your Eyes Only" premiered on ABC (1983) grabbing 25 million TV viewers overall. It repeated also on ABC (1985) nabbing even more with 28 million TV viewers overall.

Pop Singer Sheena Easton sung the title theme song that became a world-wide hit. She is the only music artist to sing the title song in the opening movie credits.

The film was re-released in 2020 and below is the updated trailer. It is way, way cool.

I look for episodes I may have missed from the classic segments. Each show goes back 30 years. CBS reaches back to when Dan Rather hosted "48 Hours Mystery." I love it.!!

300 years later 'Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes' brings new story

KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES from 20TH CENTRUY FOX. It premieres on May 24, 2024.

There is a new "Ape" in town and his name is "Noa" who is the latest hero struggling to find his path. It is 300 years after "Caeser's" death. The apes are in control and humans are the lesser species. 

"Noa" faces "Proximus Caesar" who proclaims himself as king and wears a crown. 

"Kingdom" harkens back to the very first, "Planet of the Apes" (1968). Look at the teaser trailer carefully. This looks exciting.

"Empire" magazine has an interview with "Kingdom" film director Wes Ball. It is on news-stands right now as well as online. (Click photo below).

John Woo 'Silent Night' is his homage to 'Silent Movies'

SILENT NIGHT from LIONSGATE. Director John Woo's latest action film is still in theaters. Plus, it's streaming with Digital and On-Demand.

I walked into a movie theater to watch this. Critics and fans of "Woo" are giving it mixed reviews. They are confused too and.... I think I know why?

This is John Woo's "Silent Film." There is no dialogue spoken by any of the actors or actresses. The sound effects and musical score took the front seat and I loved it.!!! Only because I enjoy 1920's silent movies.

I sat up in my theater seat to watch and listen. All of the emotions are there in body movement and in the human eyes. We even had to read a written note at the end. No spoken words.

This is a story which has been done so many times in action films. A father's vengeance against the man who killed his son. Been there - Done that.!!

John Woo takes a new approach with the lead actor (father) who loses his voice after getting shot in the throat. When he goes silent. So does the whole movie. Congratulations on taking a different take. Check it out.

Missing in America 'Dateline Digital' Tyler Goodrich went missing on Nov. 3, 2023

DATELINE-DIGITAL from NBC. "Missing in America" (2023). "Tyler Goodrich, a 35-year-old veteran and father of two, has been missing since Friday, November 3, 2023. He was last seen leaving his Lincoln, Nebraska home that evening."

Note: Watch the black and white security footage carefully. It isn't Tyler running away. Someone was outside his home on the day he went missing. Was it foul play?

Update 'Missing in America' with Josh Mankiewicz 'Dee Ann Warner' Husband arrested

Dee Ann's body has never been found. Her husband Dale had changed his story several times. He was the last person to see her alive. She had told him she wanted a divorce who went missing after their violent argument.

Listen to her missing story below with Josh Mankiewicz. Dee Ann's disappearance is a complete mystery. No one knows where her dead body is and her husband claims he doesn't know either.

Fans Rejoice! 'Godzilla 1.0/C' to be released in Japan Jan. 12, 2024

GODZILLA MINUS ONE from TOHO Pictures (2023). It is still in movie theaters and making money. Director Takashi Yamazaki had been working on a Black & White version which makes Godzilla a lot scarier.

The new teaser Trailer is called, "Godzilla 1.0/C."

The film will only come back into theaters in Japan (1-12-2024). Decisions are being made to re-release in other countries. Fans are hoping for a U.S. release.

"Godzilla" certainly looks scarier in this new "monochrome" version eliminating color. Way cool.

Erin Moriarty 'My Life of Crime' podcast 'Fight for the Truth'

My Life of Crime -- "On September 6, 1988, a wealthy couple, Seymour and Arlene Tankleff, were brutally attacked and killed in their home on Long Island, New York. The main suspect was their 17-year-old son, Marty, who was the sole survivor in the house. Detective James McCready was convinced Marty was to blame and prepared a written statement for him to admit he killed his parents." 

"But the physical evidence at the crime scene didn't match the murder weapons described in Marty's so-called confession. Erin Moriarty and retired 48 Hours producer Gail Zimmerman go behind the scenes on a case that spanned nearly two decades and was one of the first wrongful conviction stories they worked on."

Note: This is from a classic "48 Hours" episode from over two decades ago. This is fascinating.

Colorado State Supreme Court disqualifies 'Donald Trump' from 2024 Presidential Ballot

FOX-31 News from Denver, Colorado. The state Supreme Court has disqualified Donald Trump from the 2024 general election Presidential ballot. The 4-3 ruling will be on hold until Jan. 4, 2024 for any or all appeals. 

Trump stated that he will "swiftly" appeal the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court. If there is no order on his appeal. Trump will be removed from the Colorado state ballot on Jan. 5, 2024.

MORTAL SIN from DATELINE. I love these in-depth podcasts which cover every detail. The "Dateline" episodes are good. But, producers go back in and give us interviews that were cut out of the original broadcast.

Nick may have talked his way out of a "Life" sentence by using the evidence against his conviction. Plus, his charisma behind prison bars. He will pay a price for murder on his own judgement day. He has to face the "God" he preached about, hid behind and used. 

He's a killer who left behind a trail of human damage. All of these women he had affairs with are paying a steep price too. It's interesting that all have left that church. It later closed down after Nick was convicted.

Classic Movie Flashback 'Beverly Hills Cop' with Eddie Murphy 1984

BEVERLY HILLS COP from PARAMOUNT Pictures (1984). It stars comedian Eddie Murphy. The production budget climbed to $13 million and reached $315 million at the world wide box office. It also became the highest grossing film of the year in the U.S. The movie was so popular that it stayed at number #1 at the box office for 13 straight weeks. 

"Cop" spawned two sequels (1987-1994). "Cop II" was very successful. While "Cop III" was a critical and box office disaster.

The story surrounds a Detroit police detective named Axel Foley (Murphy). His best friend is murdered who worked in California. Axel travels to "Beverly Hills" to investigate. The culture clash is very funny with a black detective meeting up with these colorful characters. (It is still fun to watch).

There will be a third sequel called, "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F" (2024) and a teaser trailer has been released. Murphy reprises his role as Axel Foley and he hasn't aged one bit. 

The streaming giant "Netflix" will premiere the sequel in the summer of 2024. (40 years after the first movie).

It's a Monster 'Godzilla Minus One' is a Box Office Hit

GODZILLA MINUS ONE from TOHO Pictures (2023). After 17 days in domestic release. The latest "Godzilla" film from Japan has become a box office hit. It remains in the top five bringing in $4 million last weekend (Dec. 15-17, 2023). It was expanded to more than 2,000 theaters.

The worldwide total has climbed to $57,418,418 (million). The production budget was a mere $15 million. (Hollywood should take note on non-bloated budgets). 

I actually walked into a movie theater to watch this. I loved it as much as other fans and critics. Good story. Awesome visual and sound effects.

Classic Movie Flashback 'Silent Night, Deadly Night' 1984

SILENT NIGHT-DEADLY NIGHT from TRI-STAR pictures (1984). The production budget climbed to $750,000. It grabbed $2,491,460 (million) at the North American box office. It was released on Nov. 9, 1984 to wide-spread angry protests in major U.S. cities. It was pulled from all 398 theaters after only ten days in release. 

The studio re-released the horror picture in May of 1985 at only 93 theaters. It was considered a financial success by producers because of the small budget.

"Silent Night" spawned four more sequels (1987-1989-1990-1991). The last three went straight to VHS Home Video. This was long before DVD sales and the Internet. It became a cult classic because of home viewing.

I focus on this movie because producers cashed in on the Hollywood "Slasher" trend. Following the immense popularity of "Halloween" (1978) and "Friday the 13th" (1980). Wes Craven's "A Nightmare on Elm Street" (1984) had also received a limited release on Nov. 9, 1984. It became a more popular horror franchise with sequels bringing in loads of money.

The commercial ads of "Silent Night" were aired during family shows like "Little House on the Prairie." That angered parents and picket lines were created across the country in protest. Tri-Star pictures pulled advertising six days after the film's release.

The popular syndicated movie review program, "At the Movies with Siskel & Ebert" condemned the film. The critics reviewed "Silent Night" in it's "X-Ray" segment. Gene Siskel even named the producer and writers of the film saying, "Shame On You."

CBS says, "The Whitaker family – Kent, his wife Tricia, and their two sons, Bart and Kevin – returned to their Sugar Land, Texas, home from dinner at a restaurant on December 10, 2003.  Upon entering, Kevin and his mother were fatally shot by a gunman inside the house.  Police investigation revealed that the murders had been planned by Bart Whitaker, who had enlisted friends Steven Champagne and Chris Brashear to carry out the plot and had intended on being shot himself as part of the scenario."

Classic Movie Flashback 'Twilight Zone: The Movie' 1983

TWILIGHT ZONE: THE MOVIE from WARNER BROS. (1983). The production budget climbed to $10 million. It grossed $42 million at the world wide box office. (Movie ticket price $3.15). Steven Spielberg and John Landis both produced the film. It's based on the popular 1959 Black & White TV series.

There are four stories that were helmed by current 1980's directors.

1. "Time Out" Directed by John Landis.
2. "Kick The Can" Directed by Steven Spielberg.
3. "It's A Good Life" Directed by Joe Dante.
4. "Nightmare At 20,000 Feet" Directed by George Miller.

CBS Television executives green-lit "The Twilight Zone" for the Fall of 1985. It ran for 3 TV seasons.

During filming of the first segment "Time Out" that was written and directed by John Landis. An on-set helicopter crash killed actor Vic Morrow and two undocumented child performers. The film's casting director didn't know about the kids who were paid under-the-table. California's child labor laws prohibited children from working at night. The film shoot was at 2 a.m.

Criminal and Civil lawsuits were filed against John Landis (Director), John Folsey Jr. (Associate Producer), Dan Allingham (Production Manager), Dorcey Wingo (Helicopter Pilot) and Paul Stewart (Explosives Expert). They were all acquitted in 1986 after heavy news coverage of the accident.

The tragic deaths garnered interest among film-goers and fans of the classic TV-series. Plus, its' famous director Steven Spielberg. When "Twilight" was released. It received mixed reviews. (My favorite segment is "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" with John Lithgow).

Fantastic 'Godzilla Minus One' in movie theaters now

GODZILLA MINUS ONE from TOHO Studios (2023). The production budget climbed to $15 million. It has grossed $34 million so far at the world wide box office. It grabbed $11 million in North America over the week-end (12/3/2023). It has become a box office smash in its' homeland of Japan.

Many critics are saying it is the best "Godzilla" film ever made after 37 films.

I'm not a "Godzilla" fan at all. But, I heard about all the rave reviews and walked into an Albuquerque Regal Cinemas. It was fantastic and when it was over. The audience burst into huge applause. Including me.

The story surrounds a World War II Japanese Kamikazi pilot. He didn't finish a job and froze during an attack by a young "Godzilla." Many men died and this pilot has survivors guilt. After the U.S. Atomic bomb obliterated Japan (1945). He lost his parents and tried to pick up the pieces of his ravaged home. He ends up taking care of a woman and her baby. Godzilla grows bigger after the Atomic bomb and returns to crush parts of Tokyo. Can this tormented pilot help fight the monster?

I can't remember if I saw the 1998 version. I have not seen any other "Godzilla" film that goes back to 1954. The English Sub-Titles didn't bother me at all. It had a great story, popping visuals and heart-pounding sound effects. Way, way cool.
