Screen Legend Gregory Peck made a bold move when he became the President of the Academy back in 1967. He won an Oscar for his role as Atticus Finch in "To Kill a Mockingbird" 1962. Atticus defended a black man who was accused of a horrible crime. He also played Phillip Green who faced racism because he was a Jew in "Gentleman's Agreement" 1947. Peck is no stranger to appearing in films which showed the public social injustice against minorities.
Peck made changes in the Academy to push-in younger voters & to push-out older voters who weren't working in the industry anymore. It was controversial & that change is now being implemented in 2016. Older Academy voters have to be pushed-out for youth & minorities. It doesn't seem fair, but there has to be progression.
