BLOW OUT from FILM-WAYS PICTURES (1981). It stars John Travolta, Nancy Allen and John Lithgow. The production budget cost $9 million. The marketing campaign also climbed to $9 million. The movie claimed a mere $13.8 million at the domestic box office. It was considered a loss and didn't open at the Foreign market.
Since 1981 - This murder mystery that was directed by Brian De Palma. It has become a major cult-classic. The "Criterion Collection" released a digital copy and it has become even more popular.
Jack Terry (John Travolta) is a sound technician who works for a production company that produces slasher films. One night, Jack is recording sounds when he thinks - he hears - a gunshot. It is right before a car runs off into a river. He jumps into the dark waters and save's a prostitute (Nancy Allen). He couldn't save Governor George McRyan who was also a presidential hopeful.
Another man took pictures of that car crash. Jack puts those pictures and his sound together. He believes that the Governor was assasinated. The police think he is a conspiracy theorist and say the crash was an accident.
I will not give anything away.... What is fascinating here is the cinematography and direction. Each scene transition is smooth and clear which captures the darker side of Philadelphia. The main focus is the "audio" which might've heard a "murder" and a possible cover up. Check it out.
