WRITERS GUILD STRIKE enters 9th week

"Deadline’s Strike Talk podcast is now in its ninth week, coming at a critical day with the expiration of the SAG-AFTRA contract."

"Deadline has revealed a high likelihood that the union agrees to kick the can down the road and beyond the holidays, but the tension is growing after more than 1000 major actors signed a solidarity letter that they are serious and will go on strike."

"That development would put every part of Hollywood in a deep sleep, because there will be no one to make projects, or promote the ones that are done. The Emmys also are threatened."

Prosecutors say Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was 'Hung-Over' day of shooting on 'Rust" Western 2021

The "Rust" western tragedy continues to play out in a Santa Fe court. Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was shot and killed on-a-film-set by a loaded prop-gun (2021).

Alex Baldwin served as lead actor and producer of the movie. He held the gun that accidentally went off killing Hutchins. The manslaughter charge was dropped against Baldwin.

Here is what we know....

  • "Rust" production was moved from New Mexico to Montana. It wrapped filming in May (2023).
  • Prosecutors will decide to re-charge Baldwin in August (2023).
  • The On-Set Armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed asked prosecutors to drop all charges against her. Her job was to handle prop-guns for the "Rust" production.
  • Prosecutors say eye-witnesses had seen Hannah drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana during the production. She may have been "hung-over" the day Hutchins was shot by that prop-gun.
  • David Halls was the first assistant-director on "Rust." He handed the prop-gun to Baldwin before Hutchins was shot. David pled "No-Contest" to the charge of handling an unsafe fire-arm. He has reportedly quit the entertainment industry.

RIP veteran actor 'Treat Williams' 1951-2023

TREAT WILLIAMS recently died after a motorcycle accident. He was a veteran actor who had many roles in films and on TV.

What I remember was the 1984 TV movie, "A Streetcar Named Desire" when he portrayed Stanley Kowalski to Anne Margaret's Blanche Dubois. I believe it was a TV ratings hit.

But - If you want a Guilty Pleasure.... Watch the 1998 horror film, "Deep Rising" with Treat fighting an underwater monster. It was a box office bomb and critics hated it. The production budget climbed to $45 million and made only $11 million at the box office.

It is so "bad" that it's fun to watch.... Over the years. The movie has become a Cult Classic. I think it's because of Treat Williams. His "Charisma" was in over-load throughout all of the Horror. Check it out if you can. Rest in Peace Treat....

Hollywood Pictures.

Treat Williams is in the front with the well-groomed hair. RIP.

CBS plans 'Reality Shows' for Fall TV Season if Writers Strike gets lengthy

CBS Fall TV schedule was unleased back in May (2023). There are no scripted shows written for the Fall TV season. It's because of the - Writers Guild Strike - which is now into its' 7th week.

George Cheeks is the President and CEO of CBS. He announced plans for more "Reality TV" that will stretch into the Fall TV Season. There will be extended shows like, "The Amazing Race" and "Survivor." The news program "60 Minutes" will remain locked on Sunday nights. "Big Brother" has moved its' premiere date to August and will run into the Fall schedule.

New Reality shows will also bow in September, "The Challenge" and "Superfan."

Game shows have been popular in prime-time and will likely help CBS ratings. They include, "Let's Make a Deal" and "The Price is Right."

CBS will also plan to grab scripted shows already written - from their streaming partner PARAMOUNT+... An example is, "SEAL team" which is very popular online.

Unless - the Writers Guild and producers reach a contract ending the Strike.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) generated Tom Cruise stunt doubles?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a huge concern with Hollywood unions. Is the computer age machines going to take over real people. Actors? Screenwriters? Directors?... AI is part of the Writers Guild "Strike" which is now in its' 6th week.

The SAG-AFTRA union is now in talks with producers about their next contracts. We are now facing the age of AI and nothing is going to stop it. We all have to deal with it.

The Internet is buzzing about the supposed Tom Cruise body doubles (below). They all look exactly like Cruise. The question is... Is this true or is this AI generated?

No one is claiming Who-What-Where? with this photo. It might be a Publicity stunt because Cruise's latest "Mission Impossible" hits theaters on July 12, 2023. Also - Cruise does his own stunts even though he has Stand-In Doubles on-film-sets.

You be the judge because AI is here to stay....

97% of SAG-AFTRA union members vote for 'Strike' authorization

SAG-AFTRA says, "In a powerful show of solidarity, SAG-AFTRA members have voted 97.91% in favor of a strike authorization ahead of negotiations of the TV/Theatrical Contracts, with nearly 65,000 members casting ballots for a voting percentage of 47.69% of eligible voters."

"The strike authorization does not mean the union is calling a strike."

"SAG-AFTRA begins negotiations on June 7 with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. The affirmative vote on the authorization empowers the union’s National Board to initiate a strike if the AMPTP won’t reach a fair deal with the union."

"The current SAG-AFTRA TV/Theatrical Contracts expire at midnight on June 30, 2023."
