JACK'S BACK from PALISADES ENTERTAINMENT (1988). It stars James Spader and Cynthia Gibb. The production budget climbed to $1.5 million. It didn't make its' money back with only $492,519 at the US box Office.
If anyone knows me. I am all about murder and mystery films. Especially from the 1980's. I've posted reviews of at least 12 mystery movies on this blog.
"Jack's Back" tells the story about the 100th anniversary of London's "Jack-The-Ripper." The police in Los Angeles have discovered a copy-cat killer. It is the final date with his last victim and the new killer will have his last victim too.
James Spader plays a student doctor who stumbles onto the new Jack-The-Ripper. This doctor is killed and his twin brother shows up who shocks the police. He also surprises this new Jack. The twin investigates on his own and his life is in danger. He is helped by another student doctor named Chris Moscari (Cynthia Gibb).
This film is so 1980's with the music soundtrack and several over-used "cliches." Minor criticism from a stylish thriller.
I won't give anything away... You will never choose the real killer. There are many twists and turns. So, watch carefully... Plus - James Spader broke out of his high school "blonde" roles. He gives a good performance here from 1988.!!

DATELINE on NBC. The episode was called, "The Secret." Andrea Canning reported and narrated the segment... It surrounded a woman named Patricia Esparza who served 6 years in prison. She pled guilty to manslaughter in the death of a Gonzalo Ramirez whom she claimed had raped her. He was murdered in 1995 by her ex-boyfriend Gianni Van.
Patricia married Gianni one month after the murder. So that she wouldn't testify against her husband. Prosecutors found "happy" photos of Gianni and Patricia right after the murder. It didn't look like she was forced to marry him which she had claimed.
She also claimed that Gianni forced her to point out Gonzalo outside of a nightclub. Patricia watched Gianni and others rear-end Gonzalo's truck. She said that she waited at a bar. Later - Gianni brought Gonzalo back to show her, his beaten up body. But, she claimed that she never saw Gonzalo murdered.
A woman named Diana who was in the van that rear-ended Gonzalo's truck. She pled guilty to manslaughter who decided to be a witness against Patricia. Diana claimed that Patricia planned Gonzalo's murder from the beginning. Patricia took a deal to serve 6 years in prison.
Patricia played the "Victim Card" in private and in public. She worked the media including "Dateline" with smart and pitiful words. A petition was created online to release her. It didn't help and those supporters didn't even show up when she was released from prison.
I thought she was a liar right from the beginning. When the prosecutors caught up with her. Patricia pulled out that "Victim Card." She manipulated the public too.

REACHER on AMAZON PRIME VIDEO. Season 1 premiered on Feb. 4, 2022. (8 Episodes). Based on the novel by Lee Child called, "Killing Floor." Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) is a veteran military policeman who travels across America on foot to solve mysteries.
Amazon dropped all 8 episodes on their streaming website and reached 240 countries... Within 24 hours - "Reacher" became the 5th most watched series in Amazon's history.
Three days later on Feb. 7, 2022. Amazon Prime Video renewed "Reacher" for season 2.
Season 1 - Jack Reacher travels to a small town named Margave, Louisiana. He is a stranger who is in the wrong place at the wrong time. Jack is accused of brutally killing a police officer. He also discovers that his own brother Joe had gone missing in this town. The dead bodies keep piling up and Jack uncovers many truths. It leads to a deep conspiracy involving his brother.
I absolutley loved this first season and I couldn't stop laughing... Alan Ritchson debuts as the 6'5" Jack Reacher and it is a "Star" making turn.
(Tom Cruise 5'6" played Jack in two movies based on Child's books).

A husband claimed to have returned home to see his wife being bludgeoned to death by a hammer. The husband grabbed his hand-gun and killed the male intruder. His wife died instantly and the husband called 911 emergency.
The police investigators closed the case and the husband moved on. He soon shocks his family and friends by marrying his pregnant "nanny."
Another woman comes forward to claim she was having an affair with the husband. Before the wife was killed. The investigation is re-opened....
Don't ask me why - My favorite performance of James Caan was in "Eraser" (1996) with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Vanessa Williams. Caan portrayed "DeGuerin" who was the villain against Arnold's hero "Eraser." DeGuerin was manipulative-greedy-arrogant-nasty and funny.... RIP Mr. Caan.

"Mission Impossible 7: Dead Reckoning Pt.1" has dropped an exciting teaser trailer. This first installment will bow in movie theaters on July 14, 2023. The 8th and second installment will drop on June 24, 2024.
Mission Impossible fans are feeling the nostalgia inside of this new trailer. It harkens back to the first film in the franchise (1996)... My favorite.
Cruise also does not disappoint by doing his own stunts. That motorcycle jump is breath-taking and you know it is Cruise instead of a stunt double.
