'The case against Adnan Syed' premiere's on HBO March 10, 2019

THE CASE AGAINST ADNAN SYED on HBO. The "Serial" podcast shed light on the death of Hae Min Lee (1999). Adnan Syed was convicted of her murder, but he has been granted a new trial. Michael Jackson estate sues HBO for $100 million over 'Leaving Neverland' documentary

LEAVING NEVERLAND on HBO. The two part documentary will air on HBO March 3 and 4, 2019. Wade Robson and James Safechuck tell their stories in great detail that Michael Jackson sexually abused them as kids (late 1980's, early 1990's). The four hour documentary premiered at the Sundance film festival (January 2019) to a standing ovation. The Jackson family estate has denounced the documentary as untrue and false. The filmmakers never interviewed any of the Jackson family and provide no physical evidence proving guilt on Michael's part. He passed away 10 years ago in 2009 and cannot defend himself.

Wade Robson and James Safechuck defended Michael claiming that he never abused them. That is until 2013 when both men filed lawsuits against the Jackson estate and asked for billions ($$). They filed under the same lawyer, but a judge dismissed their lawsuits.

The Jackson family has now filed a $100 million lawsuit against HBO. The cable network has kept the documentary under wraps and finally has released a trailer (below).

Bill announced by removing rebate cap for 'New Mexico Film Industry' 2019

The complete Press Release below comes from the official website of the New Mexico Governor, Michelle Lujan Grisham.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Gov. Lujan Grisham, Sen. Rodriguez announce bill to ensure thriving future for New Mexico film industry by removing rebate cap

Feb 1, 2019 | Press Releases

SANTA FE — Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on Friday unveiled Senate Bill 2, which will reinvigorate and provide for the future of the New Mexico film and media industry by finally removing the restriction on annual rebate payments.

The legislation, sponsored by Sen. Nancy Rodriguez of Santa Fe, sends a clear message about the state administration’s commitment to film industry professionals in New Mexico and producers who continue to bring their productions to the state. Senate Bill 2 will remove the $50 million annual “cap” on rebate payouts and make other tweaks that will streamline the program and simplify its use for producers, including the elimination of the state’s tiered payout system and facility restrictions and tightened residency and pass-through requirements.

“We have built a viable industry in New Mexico, providing opportunity for our students to find exciting work and benefits without leaving the state,” Gov. Lujan Grisham said. “Now we will help that viable industry transform into something greater. This legislation represents a return to the right kind of attitude about New Mexico’s film and television industry. For too long, our ability to grow has been artificially shackled. The cap’s time has come, and I look forward to continued productivity in this clean, exciting sector, with renewed growth into other parts of our beautiful state.”

“We can’t keep the door half-closed,” said Sen. Rodriguez. “This is a bill for New Mexico, for New Mexicans who already work in this industry and young people who want to start. And it’s a great step toward diversifying our economy.”

“We want to continue to see film productions spread throughout the state, beyond the Rio Grande corridor,” said Secretary-designate Alicia Keyes of the Economic Development Department. “When a production comes through, our local economies benefit.”

In attendance at a news conference Friday announcing Senate Bill 2 were numerous representatives of the film and television industry in New Mexico, including actors who are native New Mexicans and who have moved to the state after filming here, representatives of the film technicians union, business-owners who have seen their portfolios expand through increased film productivity and other advocates.

New Mexico currently has eight productions on the ground, four of which are television series, and another ten are scheduled to begin filming through June.

HBO Documentary 'Jane Fonda in Five Acts' is quite compelling

JANE FONDA IN FIVE ACTS for HBO. She is the daughter of Hollywood legend Henry Fonda. She became a popular actress herself, but is remembered more for her activism. This documentary follows her life in "Five Acts." It is a fascinating, but also a controversial look.

Jane Fonda became an activist against racism, poverty and especially America in the Vietnam War (1964-1973). She was labeled "Hanoi Jane" after she visited North Vietnam (1972) and sat on a "dike" (anti-aircraft gun) that was used to shoot down American planes. The United States supported South Vietnam. She was there to protest Americans bombing innocent North Vietnamese peasant villages. That photo was seen around the world and labeled her an "American Traitor." Fonda has since apologized for that picture and will until the day she dies. It is her biggest regret.

This documentary also chronicle's her life as an actress, film producer, her three marriages and most of all, as a complicated woman. She is revered and looked up to by millions of women. She is still hated though by many US servicemen who fought in Vietnam (58,000 died in the conflict). President Richard Nixon (Resigned in 1974) had Fonda on his enemy list and even had her followed by the FBI. She went into great detail about Nixon in her memoir "My Life So Far."

Jane Fonda appears in the hit "Netflix" TV series, "Grace and Frankie" with comedian Lily Tomlin.

SAG-AFTRA Local New Mexico 'Netflix buys ALBQ Studios'

New Mexico local member,

"As many of you know -- New Mexico’s “new year celebration” came a bit early with the recent announcement of Netflix buying our beloved ABQ Studios. This means now is the perfect time to update your headshots, take a class and re-examine your reel. Let’s give the gift of New Mexico talent to all the productions that come to our Land of Enchantment."

"We do have a big announcement to make regarding the New Mexico Local SAG Awards viewing party: We have decided not to host a party in 2019. Instead, we’ll utilize those funds to present several smaller, more intimate events, mixers and gatherings throughout the year. We think this will be a great way to focus on what’s happening in our market, what’s happening at the national level and, of course, it's a great way for our members to connect more frequently."

"Meanwhile, all members are encouraged to participate in this year’s awards by:
  •     Voting for this year’s terrific slate of actors.
  •     Organizing parties of your own.
  •     Sharing photos of your celebrations on social media at #sagawards."
"On behalf of myself and the entire SAG-AFTRA New Mexico Local Board, we wish all of you a happy, healthy and productive 2019. See you on set."

Cheers -- Marc Comstock -- New Mexico Local President

SAG-AFTRA President message 'Ads Go Union' 2019

Dear Roscoe, (SAG-AFTRA member 10185409)

"I am so proud to see the extraordinary work and solidarity our members displayed during the Screen Actors Guild Awards this past Sunday (Jan. 27, 2019) and I thank all of you for your contributions. From voting for the recipients to watching the show together at our locals’ viewing parties, your contributions and your work are what make our union the best in the world."

"There is one incredibly important video that I think every member should see. During the show, member and SAG Award winner J.K. Simmons delivered a special address urging all our members to join in supporting the Ads Go Union campaign."

"Our effort to preserve and grow union commercial work through Ads Go Union, which also includes the strike against ad agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH), Inc., has tremendous momentum. In addition to J.K., high-profile members including Bryan Cranston, Dulé Hill and Jazmyn Simon, Colton Dunn, Henry Winkler, the cast of 'Grey’s Anatomy' including Jason George, James Pickens, Chandra Wilson and Kim Raver; Patrick Fabian, Laverne Cox and my former cast-mates on 'Beverly Hills, 90210', have all recorded videos of support."

"You can help, too. Check out our #StrikeBBH toolkit. Just login to your SAG-AFTRA web account and download it from the BBH Strike Center."
