BLOWOUT from FILMWAYS pictures (1981). It was written and directed by Brian De Palma and starred John Travolta. The production budget climbed to $18 million and only grossed $13 million at the US box office. Movie critics praised the film but it never caught on with audiences for that year.
The story surrounds a man who works with sound effects for B-movies in Philadelphia. One night while recording sounds near a bridge and river. He records a car driving off this bridge and a Presidential candidate is killed. A hooker who was with him was saved from drowning in that accident. The man who records sound investigates on his own with tragic consequences.
"Blowout" is now on Blu-Ray and it's fantastic! I love a good mystery and the person(s) who murdered this Presidential candidate may never be caught. This movie is now a cult classic and I cannot say enough about how good it really is.
I actually went to an independent movie theater for a revival of "Blowout" in 1986. I paid $1 dollar and absolutely loved it.
