Classic Podcast '48 Hours' episode 'Who's There?' with Hannah Storm

48 Hours says, "In 1982, a quiet town in Kansas was rocked by the murder of a young banker named David Harmon who was bludgeoned to death in his bed. His wife told authorities that it was a home invasion. Investigators suspected that she was having an affair with a family friend and that the two were involved in David’s murder. But the case went cold until nearly 20 years later, armed with new forensic technology, police zeroed in on the couple.

48 Hours" Correspondent Hannah Storm reports.

This classic episode last aired on 7/7/2007.

Classic Podcast '48 Hours' episode 'The Cyanide Killer' with Troy Roberts

Her best friend, Eva McGregor, suspected Rosemarie's husband, Yazeed Essa, had tampered with her calcium supplements the morning of the day she died. Tests on the pills revealed Rosemarie had died of cyanide poisoning. But when police went to charge Essa, they learned he had fled the country, resulting in an international manhunt.

SAD NEWS Oscar winning actor 'Gene Hackman' of 'The French Connection' Dies at age 95

GENE HACKMAN and his wife were found deceased inside of their Santa Fe (Ne Mexico) home. Police are investigating this as "suspicious." He was one of my favorite actors of all time. I loved every film he appeared in and I am at a loss for words.

He won the Best Actor Oscar for "The French Connection" (1971). It was the best action movie of the 1970's. It set the standard for many action films to follow. My favorite performance was in "Mississippi Burning" (1988). It was about the investigation of three Civil Rights workers who disappeared in the deep South. I've seen that film so many times and revel in Hackman's performance. He wasn't in a lot of comedies except for one good one, "The Birdcage" (1996). He portrayed a politician who was forced to dress in female "Drag" to get away from the press. (Absolutely hilarious!). Every time I saw it in a theater. The audience exploded into laughter when seeing Hackman in "Drag."

He acted in some other fine movies which I can't list here.

You will not be forgotten Mr. Hackman. Rest in Peace....

1972 "The French Connection" as Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle.

1974 "The Conversation" as Harry Caul.

1986 "Hoosiers" as Coach Norman Dale.

1988 "Mississippi Burning" as Anderson. On right with Willem Defoe.

1992 The Western "Unforgiven" as Little Bill Dagget. Hackman won the Best Supporting Oscar that year.

1996 "The Birdcage" as Senator Keeley. Behind the scenes of movie with Hackman dressed in "Drag."

1996 "Extreme Measures" as Dr. Lawrence Myrick. On the left with Hugh Grant.

President Trump 'Voters' outrage against Republican legislators 2025

Hello everyone... I usually don't post a lot of Politics on this Entertainment Blog. President Trump has served only 30 days in office and is dis-mantling the Federal Government. He has fired thousands of employees illegally after appointing Elon Musk (billionaire) in a made up job called, "Doge." Elon donated millions to Trump's re-election campaign (2024). He was never elected into office, but Trump is letting Elon make decisions from the White House.

Republicans have the majority "Vote" in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. They are supporting Trump and Elon Musk's reckless decisions. It is impacting their own Republican voters. Several GOP legislators have held town hall meetings and they are receiving heavy backlash. Trump's poll numbers have also taken a "nose-dive" with unfavorable numbers. He doesn't care and has proclaimed himself a "King" who has always wanted to become a "Dictator."

There have been large protests across all Fifty U.S. States from thousands of Americans. It will not stop.

Below is a view into a few Republican town-hall meetings inside Republican districts. Trump is hurting his own voters.

Classic Movie Flashback 'Rita, Sue & Bob Too' 1987 from England

RITA, SUE & BOB TOO distributed by FILM FOUR INTERNATIONAL (1987). This was adapted from two theatre stage plays written by Andrea Dunbar. It's loosely based on her life. The movie is set in the working class town of Yorkshire, England.

It earned $1.4 million at the worldwide box office in US dollars. (Euro - 933,000).

The comedy/drama didn't reach the United States until 1988. I walked into an independent movie theater to watch it. US critics and audiences praised it.

The story is simple. Two teen girls are finishing up their school years. They are best friends who babysit for an upper class married couple. The husband propositions both girls in his parked car. They have sex and the comedy/drama ensues. Two separate social classes merge.... There is a scene where the husband cannot get sexually aroused with either girl. This was long before "Viagra." It is the saddest, funniest scene in the movie.

"Rita" was very frank about sex and the complications that come with it. Marriages fall apart and relationships struggle under its weight. This movie handled it with humor and never fell into "preaching." That's why it has become a cult classic. The 1980's fashion and attitudes look cartoon-ish in 2025. (That's how we dressed back then). But, the story is still very relatable.

"Rita, Sue & Bob Too" is now on BluRay. Check it out.

Below is the 1987 original movie Trailer.

Classic Movie Flashback 'Once Upon A Time In America' 1984 with Robert De Niro

ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA distributed by WARNER BROS. (1984). It was directed by Sergio Leone and was based on the book by Harry Grey called, "The Hoods." It starred Robert De Niro and James Woods. (This is number #4 on my favorite movie list of the 1980's).

The production budget climbed to $30 million and grossed $5.5 million at the box office. It was a major flop. There were two versions. The European version premiered at the Cannes Film Festival at 3 Hours and 49 Minutes. The American version was cut down to 2 Hours and 19 Minutes. The European version was never released in the United States until the restoration in 2003.

I walked into a movie theater in 1984 to watch this. I was totally confused and hoped to watch the European cut. I finally saw the long version and it makes sense. The problem was that the American producers wanted to make money by cutting the film. It didn't work.

The story is simple. At the beginning of the 19th Century. Two Italian boyhood friends grew up in New York. They become gangsters who live by greed and corruption which spans decades. The violence seeps into their personal lives and at times is hard to watch.

This is an underrated "Gangster" movie and it's a shame that the producers released it so poorly. Director Sergio Leone had wanted to release it in 2-parts. He was forced to cut it down from 4 Hours and 29 Minutes. He was not involved in the American version.

Film buffs love this movie and there is a lot of commentary on "YouTube." I say ignore it all and watch it on Blu-Ray 2014. (The long version). Make your own decisions about what the director wanted to say. I think it is Robert De Niro's finest performance.

Below is the original Trailer "Once Upon time in America" 1984.

Review: Excellent 'Netflix' series 'The Lincoln Lawyer' Season 3

THE LINCOLN LAWYER from NET-FLIX. (2024). It is based on the books written by Michael Connelly. Matthew McConaughey starred in the 2011 film based on the book, "The Lincoln Lawyer." (I walked into a movie theater to watch it and liked it a lot).

Manuel Garcia-Rulfo stars in the TV series which was picked up by Netflix for a 4th season.

Each TV season is based on Connelly's books.

  • 1st season "The Brass Verdict."
  • 2nd season "The Fifth Witness."
  • 3rd season "The Gods of Guilt."
Mickey Haller (Manuel) is a Los Angeles defense attorney who drives around the city in a vintage Lincoln car. Over 10 episodes in each TV season. It is set in a courtroom surrounded by a murder mystery. (I love a good mystery!).

I just binge watched season 3 called, "The Gods of Guilt." Mickey's friend named Gloria was murdered. A man named Julian was charged with her murder. He claims his innocence and Mickey discovers that Gloria was connected to a drug dealer named Hector. He is mysteriously involved with a DEA agent named James. Mickey keeps losing in court and is discouraged by another death close to him. He feels guilty because of his high profile job. He makes a tough decision to unravel the mystery of Gloria's death.

There is a cliff-hanger at the end of season 3 which is shocking. I will not reveal it here.... But, I will say that someone turns up from the 1st TV season.

You can check out season 3 over at Netflix.

Classic Movie Flashback 'Wish You Were Here' 1987 with Emily Lloyd

WISH YOU WERE HERE from PALACE pictures (1987). This was loosely based on a "British" madam named Cynthia Payne. It's a coming-of-age-story of a 16-year-old teen girl (Early 1950's).

Back in the 1980's. Each Foreign movie that wasn't distributed by a big film studio. They were distributed into the United States through Independent theaters. "Wish You Were Here" came from England and was a hit with $3 million at the box office. It grabbed $3.3 million in the U.S. The production budget climbed to $1.2 million and grossed $12 million worldwide. (Movie ticket price for 1987 was $3.91).

"Wish" was praised by critics and its' popularity grew by word-of-mouth. Film audiences had the power to make a hit at the box office. I heard about this movie through newspaper ads, radio and film critics. (We didn't have the Internet back then). I walked into an Independent theater to watch it.

The story is simple. Lynda Mansell (Emily Lloyd) is a 16-year-old blonde from a small coastal town. She was very close to her mom who died and misses her every day. Lynda is outrageous, fun and very frank with her words. She loves to taunt the men with her sexual awakening. It drives her conservative town "nuts" which included her dad and sister. She follows her own path and lives life to the fullest.

"Wish" broke ground for focusing on the sexual constraints of the 1950's. A woman's sexuality was dealt with humor and sensitivity. It never fell into sleaze even though it was frank about sex.

This movie finally reached BluRay in 2023. Check it out.

Below is a Re-mastered Trailer "Wish You Were Here" 1987.

Podcast 'Dateline' episode 'The Devil Wore White' with Keith Morrison 2025

DATELINE on NBC. I watched last Friday's episode called, "The Devil Wore White" (Jan. 31, 2025). There are killers of human beings for "greed" and there are monster killers for "greed." This mother and son are worse than monsters. A diabolical team. It's sick because investigators believe that the mother sexually seduced her son to control him. (Gross!).

Sadly, one family will never know where their father is. He took a vacation out of the U.S., with this mom and son. He never returned from that trip. Nobody knows where his body is.

Below is the Podcast of this episode. If you missed it.
