Classic Podcast '48 Hours' episode 'The Cyanide Killer' with Troy Roberts
48 Hours says, "In February 2005, Rosemarie Essa was in a minor car accident, and though she suffered no physical injuries she died shortly afterwards at a Cleveland hospital. Her best friend, Eva McGregor, suspected Rosemarie's husband, Yazeed Essa, had tampered with her calcium supplements the morning of the day she died. Tests on the pills revealed Rosemarie had died of cyanide poisoning. But when police went to charge Essa, they learned he had fled the country, resulting in an international manhunt.

SAD NEWS Oscar winning actor 'Gene Hackman' of 'The French Connection' Dies at age 95
GENE HACKMAN and his wife were found deceased inside of their Santa Fe (Ne Mexico) home. Police are investigating this as "suspicious." He was one of my favorite actors of all time. I loved every film he appeared in and I am at a loss for words.
He won the Best Actor Oscar for "The French Connection" (1971). It was the best action movie of the 1970's. It set the standard for many action films to follow. My favorite performance was in "Mississippi Burning" (1988). It was about the investigation of three Civil Rights workers who disappeared in the deep South. I've seen that film so many times and revel in Hackman's performance. He wasn't in a lot of comedies except for one good one, "The Birdcage" (1996). He portrayed a politician who was forced to dress in female "Drag" to get away from the press. (Absolutely hilarious!). Every time I saw it in a theater. The audience exploded into laughter when seeing Hackman in "Drag."
He acted in some other fine movies which I can't list here.
You will not be forgotten Mr. Hackman. Rest in Peace....
1972 "The French Connection" as Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle.
1974 "The Conversation" as Harry Caul.Saturday Night '48 Hours' Two Back-To-Back Episodes

48 Hours says, "Part one of the investigation into the murder of 37-year-old Peggy Hettrick. In February 1987, her mutilated, half-naked body was discovered in a field near the Colorado home of Tim Masters, a 15-year-old boy. He told police he had seen the body on his way to school but, thinking it was a mannequin, did not report it."
"Masters then became a suspect when police searched his home and found a collection of knives and his graphic drawings of murder and mutilation. Classic Movie Flashback 'Once Upon A Time In America' 1984 with Robert De Niro
ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA distributed by WARNER BROS. (1984). It was directed by Sergio Leone and was based on the book by Harry Grey called, "The Hoods." It starred Robert De Niro and James Woods. (This is number #4 on my favorite movie list of the 1980's).
The production budget climbed to $30 million and grossed $5.5 million at the box office. It was a major flop. There were two versions. The European version premiered at the Cannes Film Festival at 3 Hours and 49 Minutes. The American version was cut down to 2 Hours and 19 Minutes. The European version was never released in the United States until the restoration in 2003.
I walked into a movie theater in 1984 to watch this. I was totally confused and hoped to watch the European cut. I finally saw the long version and it makes sense. The problem was that the American producers wanted to make money by cutting the film. It didn't work.
The story is simple. At the beginning of the 19th Century. Two Italian boyhood friends grew up in New York. They become gangsters who live by greed and corruption which spans decades. The violence seeps into their personal lives and at times is hard to watch.
This is an underrated "Gangster" movie and it's a shame that the producers released it so poorly. Director Sergio Leone had wanted to release it in 2-parts. He was forced to cut it down from 4 Hours and 29 Minutes. He was not involved in the American version.
Film buffs love this movie and there is a lot of commentary on "YouTube." I say ignore it all and watch it on Blu-Ray 2014. (The long version). Make your own decisions about what the director wanted to say. I think it is Robert De Niro's finest performance.
Below is the original Trailer "Once Upon time in America" 1984.

Classic Movie Flashback 'Wish You Were Here' 1987 with Emily Lloyd
WISH YOU WERE HERE from PALACE pictures (1987). This was loosely based on a "British" madam named Cynthia Payne. It's a coming-of-age-story of a 16-year-old teen girl (Early 1950's).
Back in the 1980's. Each Foreign movie that wasn't distributed by a big film studio. They were distributed into the United States through Independent theaters. "Wish You Were Here" came from England and was a hit with $3 million at the box office. It grabbed $3.3 million in the U.S. The production budget climbed to $1.2 million and grossed $12 million worldwide. (Movie ticket price for 1987 was $3.91).
"Wish" was praised by critics and its' popularity grew by word-of-mouth. Film audiences had the power to make a hit at the box office. I heard about this movie through newspaper ads, radio and film critics. (We didn't have the Internet back then). I walked into an Independent theater to watch it.
The story is simple. Lynda Mansell (Emily Lloyd) is a 16-year-old blonde from a small coastal town. She was very close to her mom who died and misses her every day. Lynda is outrageous, fun and very frank with her words. She loves to taunt the men with her sexual awakening. It drives her conservative town "nuts" which included her dad and sister. She follows her own path and lives life to the fullest.
"Wish" broke ground for focusing on the sexual constraints of the 1950's. A woman's sexuality was dealt with humor and sensitivity. It never fell into sleaze even though it was frank about sex.
This movie finally reached BluRay in 2023. Check it out.
Below is a Re-mastered Trailer "Wish You Were Here" 1987.
