PALEY-FEST at Los Angeles celebrates 50th Anniversary of 'Charlie's Angels'
CHARLIE'S ANGELS on ABC (1976 to 1981). Has it been 50 years since this show was on? I have to admit that I began watching when Cheryl Ladd (Kris Monroe) joined up. She replaced Farrah Fawcett (Jill Monroe) who left the show after the first TV season.
It was a "juggernaut" as the American culture started to change in the mid-1970's. The rise of the women's movement and social issues being tackled on television. There were only 3 major TV networks back then (ABC-CBS-NBC).
"Angels' became a hit because of three women who were not victims to men. Women came to the rescue as private detectives. Albeit beautiful women. Men tuned in for all of that "jiggle."
Paley-fest honors "Charlie's Angels" on their 50th Anniversary.

Excellent 'ABC News' Podcast 'A Murder On Orchard Street' 2017
A MURDER ON ORCHARD STREET from ABC NEWS (2017). I actually missed this episode and I recently found it in Podcast format. (Excellent!).
A young man was shot in the heart and died on Orchard street (New York City). His best friend was with him. There were three important witnesses with three different stories. Police detectives did not find the gun. So, DNA evidence is lost. The neighborhood saw and heard nothing. There was a possible love triangle involving the male victim, his friend and a young lady.
There are many twists and turns in this murder case. We follow police detectives on the street back in 2003. There were no iPhone cameras back then, but only security foorage. Police rely mainly on eyewitnesses. We follow these detectives through the whole thing and it is "riveting."
The murder is still unsolved. Each eyewitness stands by their story too. Three different men shot this guy who has completely disappeared.
Note: I listened to the Podcast twice and later found the news video of the report. I agree with the male best friend and his memory of the killers face. Police provided a sketch artist to draw the suspect. (Real old school).
It's a mystery that may never be solved.

TV Review 'Silk' from BBC One 4-out-of-5 Stars*
SILK on BBC One (2011 to 2014) United Kingdom. I am coming to this TV series late. It ran for 3 seasons and was a TV ratings hit peaking at 6 million viewers. It averaged 5 million viewers throughout. It ran on PBS Masterpiece in the U.S.
The story is simple. We follow a barrister (lawyer) Martha Costello (Maxine Peake) who strives to become a QC (Queen's Counsel). She is a member of the law firm, "Shoe Lane Chambers." She's given court cases as a defense attorney and a few as a prosecutor.
"Silk" refers to what the female QC wears inside chambers (court-room). Silk gowns.
The law in England and the United States is quite different. All judges and lawyers wear white wigs and black robes in court. Opposing counsel cannot "Object" in court. Only a judge can do that. Plus, evidence is shared from the defense to the prosecution. Not vice versa. The defense suspect sits behind thick glass in court and sometimes above the chambers (court-room).
"Silk" has high-drama outside the court-room. The politics inside the firm is intriguing. I will not give away the sub-plots that run through the story with each season. They all involve Martha and it affects her personally plus professionally. There is also good drama inside the court-room.
I purchased a Blu-Ray copy of the series and it is worth it. Check it out.

1980's Action Movie Star 'Chuck Norris' dies at age 86
During the 1980's. Action movie stars come out every year. Arnold, Sly, Willis, Chan, Seagal and Van Damme. Then, there was the martial artist Chuck Norris. My favorite film of his is, "Lone Wolf McQuade." It was so bad it was good. His best performance was in "Code of Silence" where Norris had to actually become an actor. The police crime thriller suited him well who received rave reviews from critics.
Norris then turned his action skills onto television with, "Walker, Texas Ranger." It made him a star all over again. The popular series ran for 8 TV seasons.... RIP.
