Sci-Fi Movie 'Alien 3' A troubled sequel production with FOX studio interference 1992

ALIEN-3 from 20TH CENTURY FOX (1992). It was directed by newcomer David Fincher and starred Sigourney Weaver. She reprised her role as Ellen Ripley from "Aliens" (1986). This is the 2nd sequel in the franchise.

David Fincher has since dis-owned the film he had directed. FOX studio executives and producers interfered throughout the troubled production. The movie was filmed without a completed screenplay. And an expensive story-end "re-shoot" had cost the studio millions ($$$). When the movie was finally released in May of 1992. Thirty minutes was cut from Fincher's original vision.

"Alien3" disappointed fans of the movie franchise. Two main characters named, "Newt" and "Corporal Hicks" were killed off at the beginning of the film. Plus, the whole story didn't make sense. (I actually liked it after seeing it 5 times in a theater).

Ellen Ripley survives the crash of the pod space-ship, "Sulaco." Her unconscious body washes ashore near the "Fiorina Fury-161" which is a prison facility inhabited only by male killers. A species face-hugger impregnates a dog who gives birth to a different kind of Alien. The prisoners begin to die one by one. Ripley and the remaining killers decide to trap the Alien and destroy it.

"Alien3" grabbed $55 million at the north American box office. It nabbed a larger audience at the Foreign box office which brought in $104 million. The world-wide total hit $180 million. The final production budget climbed to $60 million. FOX executives claim that this sequel is the largest grosser in the franchise.

David Fincher's vision was not lost. A Blu-Ray disc was released as an "Assembly Cut" which was added back into the movie. The extra 30 minutes gave the film more sense.... And, it is really good.!! 

Sigourney Weaver is in talks with movie executives for a possible "Alien 5." Director Walter Hill wrote a rough 50-page draft screenplay. It has Ellen Ripley in a new "space." Fans like me are more than excited... Wahoo.!!!

THE LAST ARK is a new Sci-Fi movie coming in 2026. This trailer is not very good. The CGI in the background never connect with the characters in the foreground. Plus, the characters are alone in these shots with floating space ships behind them. Who are they interacting with? The female captain of this ship is unclear. Where is the interaction between the enemy or enemies in this "War?"

Your guess is as good as mine pal.... :) ...

Sci-Fi 'Aliens' with Sigourney Weaver grabbed 7 Oscar Nominations 1986

ALIENS from 20TH CENTURY (FOX) STUDIOS (1986). Directed by James Cameron and starred Sigourney Weaver who reprised the role of Ellen Ripley in this action sequel to "Alien" (1979).

The production budget climbed to $18 million and grossed $85 million in north America. It would climb to $181 million at the world-wide box office. The release on VHS home video became a smash hit. This was before the Internet. Home video was huge money for movie studios. After films ended their theatrical runs. 

Ellen Ripley was the only survivor from the "Nostromo." She had been in space hyper-sleep for 57 years. The marines are ordered to search for missing families at a remote colony. Ripley is still traumatized by the first Alien experience with horrible nightmares. She is asked to serve as a consultant following these badass marines. They encounter Alien Xenomorphs.

"Aliens" received 7 Oscar nominations at the 1987 Academy Awards. It won Best Sound Effects Editing and Best Visual Effects. Sigourney Weaver received a nomination as Best Actress and is the only female to receive that honor for a Sci-Fi film.

This sequel is considered one the best movies of the 1980's. It is also considered one of the best action movies ever made. Plus, one of the finest sequels to be produced. "Aliens" has the biggest cult following too - which includes myself.

Sigourney Weaver is in talks to reprise Ellen Ripley for a 5th movie. She recently read a rough draft 50-pages of a screenplay written by director Walter Hill. She likes where Ripley is now. Alien fans love this news.

Sigourney Weaver in talks to reprise Ellen Ripley for 'Alien 5'

Sigourney Weaver spoke at the recent New York Comic-Con 2025. She claims to have read a rough draft 50-page screenplay written by Walter Hill (Director). It shows where the character of Ellen Ripley is in a new "Alien" film. Sigourney starred as Ripley in 4 movies (1979-1986-1992-1997). So, there might be a possible return of a beloved character in this Sci-Fi movie series.

The Internet is a buzz over this exciting news.

"Alien" 1979 was directed by Ridley Scott and starred Weaver in her first movie role. The story surrounds a 7-man crew on a space tug named, "Nostromo." They received a signal from a derelict Alien vessel. They find no life forms and travel back to earth. A species face-hugger attaches itself to one crew member. An Alien is born and grows on the Nostromo. Crew members are then killed one by one.

The tagline of the film is, "In space no one can hear you scream." 

"Alien" is the first Sci-Fi movie to scare theater audiences. It grabbed $78 million in North America. The world wide gross reached $188 million. 

With that success... 20th Century (Fox) Studios would produce 3 more sequels. Each story would surround the character of Ellen Ripley. 

"Alien" has spawned two prequels and one sequel in between "Alien" and "Aliens" 1986. Plus, two "Alien vs. Predator" films. "Alien: Earth" premiered on the Internet streaming sites FX & HULU (2025).

Note: Did you watch this episode last Friday? I did and all I can say is the mother who was charged had fake tears. I couldn't stop laughing. Plus, I believe the wife knew what was going on against her husband. She wanted child custody.

Sigourney Weaver read new 50 page screenplay of possible 'Alien' return

The ALIEN movie franchise may have a possible return with Sigourney Weaver (Ellen Ripley). She was interviewed at the recent New York Comic-Con and talked about reading a 50-page screenplay start written by Walter Hill (Director). She enjoyed the script and there is talk about a new film in the franchise.

I am a huge fan of "Alien" and this is exciting news. I loved all 4 movies and Weaver last appeared in "Alien: Resurrection" (1997). I've seen them numerous times because of Weaver's Ripley.

I don't know if these 50-pages written by Hill is a first draft. It sounds like he wrote more drafts if Weaver enjoyed where Ellen Ripley is at now. It sounds like it can happen sooner rather than later. I can't wait... Wahoo.!!!

The Very Best of Josh Mankiewicz 'Dateline' series 'Missing in America'

MISSING IN AMERICA from DATELINE. This was not a TV episode on NBC. Josh Mankiewicz reported and narrated this podcast segment called, "Missing in Music City."

Nashville, Tennessee. Marcus Rutledge disappeared on June 8, 1998. He attended Tennessee State University. His car was found abandoned 20 miles from campus with no trace of Marcus.

The police investigation uncovered a second girlfriend with a child. Marcus sold marijuana with his best his friend who would later be murdered. The police found that Marcus quit the university and his family didn't know anything. He also owned a gun.

The body remains of Marcus would be found off Nashville highway "12" back in 2010. He was labeled "John Doe" until a family DNA match in 2023.

The Rutledge family had received strange phone calls. They would answer and no one would talk on the other end of the line. The family had believed it was Marcus who disappeared because of his marijuana distribution. Drug dealers might be searching for him. Those phone calls lasted for years after he went missing. 

What happened to Marcus? Was he murdered? The police believe there is foul play involved. The mystery surrounds Marcus who left his car back in 1998. He ended up in a wooded area off highway "12."

The Very Best of Josh Mankiewicz 'Dateline' episode 'Final Curtain' 2018

DATELINE on NBC. There are two episodes reported on by Josh Mankiewicz. The first segment is called, "Plot Twist" (2016) and the second is called, "Final Curtain" (2018). 

Orange County, California.... Julie is murdered with two gunshots to the head. Her body was found inside the apartment of her friend Sam. He goes missing until a young man uses Sam's credit card. That young man claims that Dan gave him the card. Sam is also found killed. Dan's girlfriend is Rachel. Both are actors in community theatre who plan to get married.

"Plot Twist" (2016) unfolded as a hardcore mystery. Who? What and Why? It was a 2-hour segment that kept the audience on-their-toes. "Final Curtain" (2018) is an update. 

Dan was charged with double murder. Police had believed Rachel knew he did it from the beginning. She was charged with accessory to murder. 

Right after the killings. Both Dan and Rachel performed in a musical play without skipping-a-beat. It seems as though they both snapped from reality. "Hollywood" creates delusions of grandeur and sometimes pushes performers over the edge.

Josh Mankiewicz looked directly at Rachel and he really didn't believe her. The mystery is "why?".... The parents of Julie and Sam are in such "pain" because they don't know the whole truth.... Julie's mom even drives up the highway and screams her daughter's name. It's just a heartbreaking story.

Extra 'Dateline' episode 'The Prince, The Whiz Kid & The Millionaire' 2025

DATELINE on NBC. The recent episode was called, "The Prince, The Whiz Kid & The Millionaire" (10/10/2025). I watched last Friday's segment and then listened to the podcast. This is one of the most wild and intriguing episodes in a long time. 

As the story unfolded. The characters became the most dangerous people in Palm Springs, CA. They were con artists who spun a web of "evil" which led to murder. The victim was also a liar whose life as a socialite was a facade - with fake money. 

The most scary part of this story was when Josh Mankiewicz interviewed that criminal socio-path. He had an evil presence in prison and I was worried about Josh. But, he handled himself well because Josh has interviewed many killers.

It is all about greed and con artists who wanted to be something they could never be. "Rich and famous." They were losers who didn't want to work. 

You cannot write this stuff up, but this could be a campy TV movie.

True Crime Fix 'The Cobra Killers' at YouTube

THE COBRA KILLERS from TRUE CRIME FIX (YouTube). I usually don't watch outside "Dateline" or "48 Hours." There are several times though when a murder mystery captivates me on another channel.

"The Cobra Killers" is a documentary about a male Gay Porn Producer who was murdered back in 2007. I'm very surprised it wasn't covered by "Dateline." Internet pornography may have been too mature for a network TV audience.

The murder investigation by these small town police detectives - is on point. They waited for the suspects to emerge and it was a surprise. The backdrop is Gay male porn that exploded on the Internet back in 2001. It's about sex and greed which led to a gruesome murder. 

Many get sucked into pornography which has become a "phenomenon" with the Internet. A porn-star is born every second.

PREDATOR: BADLANDS opening in IMAX theaters on Nov. 7, 2025. The movie studio has released three trailers in one. This is an interesting marketing move one month away from its' premiere date. It doesn't look like there will be a new trailer without giving away the complete story. 

Most trailers these days give up the whole story in 3 minutes.

I think the strategy here is to get audiences into IMAX theater seats. This might work for me because I want to see this.

The Best of Josh Mankiewicz 'Dateline' podcast 'Internal Affairs' 2022

DATELINE on NBC. The audio Podcast has attracted millions of listeners from around the world. Season One had the series, "Internal Affairs" reported and narrated by Josh Mankiewicz. As a huge fan of "Dateline." I think this podcast is one of Josh's best work.

"Internal Affairs" (6 Episodes) tells the story of a 3-year sexual fling between Ignacio and Shawna. They both are married with children. They also work for the police department at Greely, Colorado. Ignacio's wife Heather was gunned down in a parking lot with two direct shots to her head. It was the winter of 2007. 

As I listened to this for a third time since 2022. This story is as old as time reaching back to the Biblical era. Infidelity turned into an obsession that destroyed marriages and families. The destruction had many victims and at the center of it is Shawna. She was charged with the murder of Heather. 

As the truth hit the surface. Not all of that truth is revealed. This is what is intriguing and fascinating to those of us who love Murder and Mystery. The gun that Shawna used to shoot Heather was never found. Only shell casings next to the dead body. There was also no DNA evidence putting Shawna at the crime scene. It was a weak circumstantial case against her. No one will ever know the whole truth.

The backdrop of this story is surrounded by the Greely police department. It was wrought with numerous affairs by men and women employees. Shawna was the most vocal and revealing with hers.
