DATELINE on NBC. There are two episodes reported on by Josh Mankiewicz. The first segment is called, "Plot Twist" (2016) and the second is called, "Final Curtain" (2018).
Orange County, California.... Julie is murdered with two gunshots to the head. Her body was found inside the apartment of her friend Sam. He goes missing until a young man uses Sam's credit card. That young man claims that Dan gave him the card. Sam is also found killed. Dan's girlfriend is Rachel. Both are actors in community theatre who plan to get married.
"Plot Twist" (2016) unfolded as a hardcore mystery. Who? What and Why? It was a 2-hour segment that kept the audience on-their-toes. "Final Curtain" (2018) is an update.
Dan was charged with double murder. Police had believed Rachel knew he did it from the beginning. She was charged with accessory to murder.
Right after the killings. Both Dan and Rachel performed in a musical play without skipping-a-beat. It seems as though they both snapped from reality. "Hollywood" creates delusions of grandeur and sometimes pushes performers over the edge.
Josh Mankiewicz looked directly at Rachel and he really didn't believe her. The mystery is "why?".... The parents of Julie and Sam are in such "pain" because they don't know the whole truth.... Julie's mom even drives up the highway and screams her daughter's name. It's just a heartbreaking story.
