IN A LONELY PLACE from SANTANA PRODUCTIONS. Humphrey Bogart started his own production company after leaving Warner Bros. Studios. He took the lead role with "In a Lonely Place" that is based on a popular novel. Nicholas Ray directed and Gloria Grahame landed the lead female role.
Bogart plays "Dix Steele" who is a movie screenwriter charged with the murder of a hat-check girl. Her name is Mildred Atkinson played by Martha Stewart who passed away at age 98.
The film earned $1.2 million in 1950 movie rentals. A box office hit at the time. It is considered one of the best "Film Noir" movies of that era and Humphrey Bogart's "darkest" role.
It has become a cult classic by movie critics and fans. In 2007 - It was selected for preservation into the National Film Registry at the Library of Congress.
Martha Stewart had made only 9 films who is most remembered for "In a Lonely Place" (1950) and "Daisy Kenyon" (1947). RIP....
