Christopher Plummer's most celebrated role is as Captain George Von Trapp in, "The Sound of Music" (1965). It won 5 Academy Awards including Best Picture. It was so popular that it had spent a full year in U.S. movie theaters. It was then cemented into American pop-culture when broadcast on network TV every holiday season.
Plummer won two Broadway "Tony" awards for "Cyrano" and "Barrymore." He also became the oldest actor (82) to win a best supporting Oscar for "Beginners" (2010).
My favorite performances are, "The Thorn Birds" (1983 TV-Mini-Series) as Archbishop Vittorio Contini-Verchese. "All the Money in the World" (2017) as J. Paul Getty. "The Insider" (1999) as 60 Minutes newsman - Mike Wallace. "The Sound of Music" (1965) as Captain George Von Trapp. Of course, there are so many roles he had portrayed in a 70-year career. RIP....
