BACHELOR PARTY from 20th CENTURY FOX (1984). It starred an up-and-coming star named Tom Hanks. This comedy was green-lighted after the success of "Police Academy." The production budget climbed to $7 million and grossed a decent $34 million at the U.S. box office. (Movie Ticket Price $3.36).
It's a simple story. Rick (Hanks) is getting married and his buddies throw a bachelor party for him. His girlfriend Debbie belongs to a rich and snobbish family. They hate Rick... A plan is hatched for Debbie to have her own bachelorette party. Both of these parties end up at the same ritzy hotel.
This comedy could never be made in 2024 because of political correctness.
Tom Hanks was a rising movie star after making it in television (Busom Buddies). He really is a good comedian. I hadn't seen this movie since 1984 and I recently watched it on Blu-Ray. It stands up as a raunchy comedy for its' time. It had me laughing out loud. It isn't like the teen sex comedies that Hollywood was cranking out each year during the 1980's.
It has it's funny moments too. I still laugh hard at the two "hookers" who show up at the bachelorette party. It's by mistake. And... I think the hot dog scene is an old joke that was done during Hollywood parties in the 1950's.
If you remember the movie "Drive-In" theaters. "Bachelor Party" was shown all summer at those theaters across the U.S. It would go onto become a huge VHS Home Video rental too.
