Classic Movie Flashback 'Back to School' 1986 with Rodney Dangerfield

BACK TO SCHOOL distributed by ORION pictures (1986). It starred Rodney Dangerfield who became a popular stand up comedian at age 40. His most famous phrase was, "I get no respect!" The opportunity to work in films came and Rodney never got the role which fit his personality. That is until "Back to School."

The production budget climbed to $11 million. It hit big with $91 million at the box office. Critics and fans praised Rodney's performance as his best work in a comedy.

The story surrounds Thorton Melon (Dangerfield) who is a self-made millionaire. His son Jason Melon (Keith Gordon) is in college who isn't getting good grades. He is also a competitive swimming pool diver. Thorton is worried about his son and decides to enroll in the same college. He goes through his own experience as a student who learns about life as the oldest Freshman.

Dangerfield was a very popular comedian and "Back to School" was his only box office hit. It was also his best performance.
