OLYMPICS at PARIS (2024). The games are over but the criticism and the laughter continue. It just keeps raging on.... This was the first year of the "Break-Dancing" competition at the games. The International Olympic Committee wanted to bring in youth viewership and they did.
What they didn't count on was a B-Girl dancer from Australia with the stage name of "Ray-Gun" (aka Rachael Gunn 36 yrs.). Her final dance battle against a girl half her age earned no points from the judges. That performance quickly hit the Internet and Ray-Gun became a worldwide phenomenon. And not in a good way.
Here are the facts:
- The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has scratched Break-Dancing from the Los Angeles 2028 Games. There is no word on whether it will return.
- Ray-Gun received no points from the judges on all of her three dance battles.
- Her husband was not an Olympic judge. He is only her coach.
- Ray-Gun beat out 15 other B-Girl dancers at the Oceania Break-Dancing Championship 2023 in Australia. Her qualification dance is online and she was chosen by a panel of nine judges to go to the Olympics 2024.
- The Change.org petition was taken down after 50,000 signatures asked the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) to explain how and why Ray-Gun got to the Olympics.
- Ray-Gun's Olympic entry was not rigged by her nor her husband.
- NBC will not share Ray-Gun's complete performances online.
