'The House of Suh' reveals a crime within a murder

THE HOUSE OF SUH (2010). A friend recommended this to me because she knows that I love a good murder mystery. When you watch the documentary trailer below. On the surface is a crime committed by a 19-year-old Korean "Golden Boy" named Andrew Suh. Underneath is another crime which threw me-for-a-loop. It was literally jaw dropping.

The most interesting thing here is the break down of a proud Korean family with culture as it's center. When the "Suh" family moved to America. Their lives fell into tragedy and then into a total nightmare. It revolves around Andrew who tried to honor his parents after they had died. There is a twist viewers don't see coming near the end. It is shocking and becomes a mystery that may never be solved.

You can watch the full documentary Here. A fan uploaded it to YouTube.

Andrew's Hope for a Second Chance

not really a mystery. catherine, andrew's guardian when he was an orphan from 13-18 and controlled his every move decision, convinced him that the person who had brutally murdered their mother (stabbing her in the face and neck 37 times) was her boyfriend. He said let's go to the police. She said impossible because she had been Robert's alibi and she would do to prison and "you will have nobody." Catherine called Andrew on the phone 66 times to persuade him that the only way to remove the shame from their family, was for him to kill Robert. "You owe it to mom and dad." He did it and was sentenced to 100 years. He could have likely gotten 5 years IF he had told the truth but his father had instilled in him family loyalty and he thought telling the truth (Catherine being the mastermind was betraying her.) He was later offered 20 years but he turned that down. He has currently served 24 years (4 more than the government offered) and has applied to clemency from the Governor after a pristine inmate record.

I had no idea Andrew turned 20 years down - assuming as he thought he was defending and being loyal to his sister. He was still a teen, barely an adult.. even though he was a top student, I do believe that his age + his judgement was so clouded and manipulated by his only adult figure! Who I can only imagine he was scared to loose as well. Let’s not forget he carried out a crime and murdered his mums murderer...if only he didn’t take matters into his own hands. 😭
