CNN 'Rust' armorer speaks out for first time about on-set fatal shooting

No one has been arrested from the 'Rust' on-set shooting that killed a cinematographer (Halyna Hutchins) and injured the director (Joel Souza). The hired armorer named, Hannah Gutierrez, is speaking out. She handled the film's weapons and props. She has "no idea" where the live ammo came from.

Here is what we know (Friday Oct. 29, 2021).

  • Assistant director David Halls has hired a lawyer.
  • On-set Armeror Hannah Gutierrez has also hired an attorney.
  • A third warrant has been issued where filming took place.
  • "Rust" is only the second film Hannah has been hired on.
  • David Halls is not a member of the Directors Guild of America (DGA). He was an assistant director on several other productions.
  • David has taken the “Mandatory DGA Safety Training” and “Covid-19 Prevention Training.”
  • Through her lawyer, Hannah claims that any/or all weapons were locked inside a truck. She witnessed no one shooting those guns.
  • The "Rust" western movie was under a DGA contract.
  • Joel Souza is a DGA member.

Just in time for Halloween 'The Wolfman' 2010 rampages through London

CNN 'Rust' crew members used live 'Ammo' on-set before fatal shooting

UPDATE: Filming of the western "Rust" has been halted indefinitely at Santa Fe, New Mexico. The investigation is on-going after the fatal gun shooting of two crew members.

It has been reported by "Yahoo" news. A land-lord has asked Hannah Gutierrez Reed to move out of the home she is renting at Arizona... Hannah was hired as the "armorer" on the western "Rust." She was responsible for all props with the production. That includes the gun that went off in Alec Baldwin's hand.

Cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, was killed and director, Joel Souza, was wounded. Hannah did not hand over the gun to Baldwin. The assistant director did.

New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham said on Tuesday that..., "The state is prepared to take action to improve safety on film sets if the industry’s doesn’t."

CNN reports that "Rust" crew members had shot off real ammunitions before the fatal gun accident. Watch news below.

1980's actor Peter Scolari 'Bosom Buddies' & 'Newhart' dies from cancer

Peter Scolari is best remembered for "Bosom Buddies" (1980-82) with Tom Hanks. It ran for only two TV seasons (ABC), but would live on for decades in TV syndication. Both actors eventually left that series behind... Peter moved onto the TV comedy, "Newhart" (1984-1990). Tom went onto 1980's movie stardom with "Splash", "Big" and "Dragnet."

"Bosom Buddies" would never be made in 2021 because of "political correctness." The 1980 TV show was about two single heterosexual men who dress in female "drag" to rent a New York apartment. RIP Mr. Scolari....

AMC 8-part docu-series has excellent 'The American West' from 2016

THE AMERICAN WEST on AMC (Cable-TV). The 8-part docu-series premiered back in 2016. It was executive produced by Robert Redford. The ratings overall stayed above 1.0 million TV viewers with 7 episodes. It dropped to 887,000 on the 8th and final segment.

It doesn't chronicle the "West" entirely. It concentrates on the popular individuals who shaped the "West." They are below....

  • JESSE JAMES (David H. Stevens)
  • BILLY THE KID (Derek Chariton)
  • CRAZY HORSE (Will Strongheart)
  • GENERAL GEORGE CUSTER (John C. Bailey)
  • SITTING BULL (Moses Brings Plenty)
  • WYATT EARP (Jonathan C. Stewart)

It is said that Robert Redford is meticulous on "detail." Especially with history... The production value here is top level. It brought me back to the 1800's. It begins with end of the Civil War (1865) and what grew out of it as the white settlers expanded westward.

I just finished "binge" watching this again. It could almost be a Silent Film. There is hardly any character dialogue. The narration and music covers each individual entirely. Their looks and actions tell the story. That action even shows us the gun violence of the 1800's.

Each story is unique and not "romanticized" like in countless western movies. My favorite is Wyatt Earp who lived to tell his stories to Silent Films (1920's). He never wanted to be an outlaw. His life just turned out that way. He wasn't even "shot" in the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral. I don't think he was meant to be.

There is a legend where Billy the Kid and Jesse James meet at Las Vegas, New Mexico. Both were popular outlaws. Jesse had asked Billy to work for him. Billy said "no." What a tense meeting that was in this excellent series. Check it out. Western fans won't be disappointed.... Grade - A+

Slim Pickings with Indie 'Westerns' streaming online

If anyone knows me. I love a great Western movie. They have made a strong resurgence on the Internet. Some good and some very, very, bad. I've been renting several westerns with Video-On-Demand and wished I hadn't. Below are reviews of recent releases.

(2021. Synopsis: "After looting a Native American burial site, a hunter unleashes the legendary Skinwalker, a shape shifting demon, onto an unsuspecting world.").

It took forever to explain the "Skinwalker." It was confusing along side the other plots of the story. The cast acted like they were in a "western." I didn't care about a single character. The background scenery was modern too. The brand-new park benches threw me off. Grade - D.

(2021. Synopsis: "After being injured at war, a civil war veteran returns home to Texas to find he's now enlisted in a new battle; one for his life.").

What drives me crazy is the background extras wearing general store costumes. Plus, the bright clothes are clean pressed - in the west. The Civil War is a tough story to tell. Especially in the South. When the lead actor began to "preach" to the audience. I turned it off completely. Again, the cast acted like they were in a "western." Grade - F.

(2021. Synopsis: "Britt MacMaster, a U.S. Marshal who rarely brings them back alive, returns home from the trail to discover his 12-year-old son, Chad has been kidnapped by outlaws Jed Blake and his gang.").

The western "cliche" dialogue is so bad it's laughable. The cast wore modern Levi jeans in the old west. Including the lead actor. The main outlaw even wore a general store gun-belt. The Native costumes looked like they came from a halloween store. Plus, when the natives come on-screen. The stereotypical Native Flute plays. There are so many things wrong with this. I don't have enough room to write. Grade - F.

Western 'Old Henry' is a gritty and violent homage to its' own genre

OLD HENRY from SHOUT STUDIOS. This independent western opened in select theaters this past weekend (10-1-2021). There are no box office numbers yet.... It will be released on Blu-Ray Nov. 9, 2021. You can pre-order your copy over at "Shout Factory."

"Old Henry" tells the story of Henry (Tom Blake Nelson) and his teen son Wyatt (Gavin Lewis) as farmers in 1906. Henry finds a wounded man with a bag of money. He didn't want to help this man - at first. When he does... It unleashes a load of past secrets that open up to violence, greed, murder and ugly truths.

Henry sees his peaceful life falling down in real time. He can't stop it as secrets are revealed by all of the men who visit his farm. Even his own secrets are unearthed. It all leads to brutal violence and death.

"Old Henry" is a homage to the westerns of yester-year. The law is miles away from every farmer. The only real law is a gun. Men are not who they "say" they are either. Tom Nelson fits right in too with his beat-up farmer hat. His Henry, is so quiet who is almost gentle. That is until he's forced to pick up a gun to protect his son. He becomes the man he used to be. (I will not give away his secret).

The big surprise here is country singer Trace Adkins. He portrays Henry's brother-in-law. It's a small but effective role that Adkins fits perfectly. This is the kind of part he should be given.

Western fans are gonna love this.... I did. Check it out at a movie theater near you.
