Peacock will stream 'Gary Coleman' on Aug. 29, 2024

DIFF'RENT STROKES on NBC (1978-1986). It was cancelled after 7 seasons because of declining viewership. But, was revived by ABC for its' final season.

The story is simple. A rich white male adopts two black boys from Harlem at New York City. The boys were moved into an upper class neighborhood. The sitcom dealt with comedy but had special episodes focusing on alcoholism, hitchhiking, child abuse, molestation and bulimia.

Gary Coleman (Arnold Jackson) and Todd Bridges (Willis Jackson) were the black kids. Dana Plato (Kimberly Drummond) was their new sister who was white. She was the daughter of Conrad Bain (Phillip Drummond). All of them became child "stars." Coleman was the youngest and he would become the most famous. His catchphrase, "What'choo talkin' 'bout, Willis?" was imitated by kids across the U.S.

Back then - There were only three TV networks ABC-CBS-NBC. The ratings for many shows were solid. Especially family shows like "Strokes" which had a huge fan base. Cable TV entered into homes by 1980.

Sadly, the child cast had deep personal problems after "Strokes" ended in 1986. Their fame had disappeared and both Bridges and Plato plunged into substance abuse.

Coleman had it the worst because he was genetically a small person and would remain that way into adulthood. Plus, his parents who were his guardians had stolen most of his earnings from the TV show. He had virtually nothing in the bank when he became 18-years-old. It played out in the press and his parents became villains until Coleman's death at age 42.

Below is the Introduction of "Diff'rent Strokes" from Season One 1978.

Classic Movie Flashback 'Chariots of Fire' 1981 with Ben Cross

CHARIOTS OF FIRE distributed by 20th CENTURY FOX (1981). It opened in U.S movie theaters and grossed $59 million from a $5 million budget. It became the biggest grossing import from Britain that year. (movie ticket price $2.78 for 1981). It would also become the 7th highest grossing film of that year.

The story is based on two real life athletic runners from the United Kingdom (Britain). They are Eric Lidell and Harold Abrahams who competed in the 1924 Olympics. Eric is a devout Christian who says that he runs for the glory of God. Harold is an English Jew who competes against the prejudice of his people.

It is an inspirational movie because of the musical score. The film's theme was released as a single record. It climbed up the Billboard's hot 100 list for five months in the U.S.. It hit the number #1 spot for one week in May of 1981. Gone are the days when instrumental movie theme songs reached Billboard's top 100. It's not like that in 2024.

The "Chariots of Fire" single record debuted on the Billboard Classical Digital Songs chart three times. Number #3 (2012), number #18 (2014), and number #16 (2015).

The soundtrack album topped the U.S., Billboard 200 album charts for 4 weeks in 1981.

It was nominated for 7 Academy Awards (Oscar) and won 4. That includes, Best Picture, Best Screenplay by Colin Welland, Best Original Score by Vangelis and Best Costume Design by Milena Canonero.

Below is the digitally remastered movie trailer from 2012. Right before the London Olympic games that year.

NBC 'Peacock' streaming removes Olympics 'Break-Dancing' content 2024

PEACOCK from NBC. The network hasn't made any announcement on why they have removed specific content of the Olympics at Paris (2024). There is copyright on the music played during the sport competitions. Synchronized Swimming events have been removed.

The "Break-Dancing" competition has been wiped clean too. It includes the dance performances of the now infamous ... "Ray-Gun" (aka Rachael Gunn). You can only see what has been shared by news outlets.

The website "Decider" claims that "Peacock" erased break-dancing quietly because of Ray-Gun's disastrous performance at the Olympics. Again - NBC has not announced why they removed content from their streaming apps. A big reason might be music copyright infringement.

The Internet is showing Ray-Gun fatigue even though the "memes" have gotten more creative and funny. She has become a viral sensation around the world. Everyone has added their criticisms from elder break-dancers, therapists, body language experts, academic scholars and of course anyone in general.

No one told Ray-Gun that she was a terrible 1990's break-dancer. She went ahead and gave her "all" during the Olympics. The public at large is only criticizing her bad performance and not her as a person.

NBC.

Internet Meme created by Brettshops 2024. Ray-Gun inserted inside the movie "Jurassic Park" (1993).

Below is "The Hodge Twins" Podcast. They analyze Ray-Gun break-dancing inside the Olympic Village 2024. She is encouraged by spectators and it looks ridiculous. The "Twins" don't hate her one bit either. They just can't believe she is out there thinking she can dance.

Put on trial for this crime, and for helping Pitonyak escape, she was found guilty and sentenced to five years in prison."

Classic Movie Flashback 'Back to the Future' 1985 with Michael J. Fox

BACK TO THE FUTURE distributed by UNIVERSAL pictures (1985). Director Robert Zemeckis had gotten this sci-fi film after the success of his "Romancing the Stone" with Michael Douglas (1984). The production budget for "Future" climbed to $19 million and grossed $388 million worldwide. It was the biggest hit movie of that year.

Michael J. Fox was a current TV star with the show, "Family Ties" (NBC 1982-89). Zemeckis wanted Fox but he was filming a special "Ties" episode. Eric Stolz was hired and then later replaced by Fox.

The story is simple. Marty McFly (Fox) is sent back to 1955 in a time machine (Delorean car). He meets his teen parents and his fate is compromised. His parents lose the opportunity to meet and later marry. Marty hatches a plan to get them together. Then, he has to find a way back to the future 1985.

For some strange reason. I missed this in movie theaters. My brother kept raging about it. I waited for the film to reach VHS home video rentals. It had the nostalgia factor in spades. It was fun going back to 1955 and meeting your parents as teens.

"Future" spawned two sequels also focusing on a time machine. They weren't as successful as the original but made some money. The film won an Oscar as Best Sound Effects Editing (Charles L. Campbell and Robert Rutledge). It received three other Oscar nominations including Best Original Screenplay, Best Sound and Best Original Song.

Below. Back in 1985. There was no Internet. If you wanted to see a movie. You called your local theater or searched for showtimes in newspaper ads. Those were the days.

A Philadelphia newspaper.

Below. Movie studios don't do this anymore. Theater Lobby Cards to entice moviegoers into the theaters. Haha... They had black and white cards in 1985.

Olympics 2024 'Break-Dancing' Fall-out over Australia's top female dancer 'Ray-Gun'

OLYMPICS at PARIS (2024). The games are over but the criticism and the laughter continue. It just keeps raging on.... This was the first year of the "Break-Dancing" competition at the games. The International Olympic Committee wanted to bring in youth viewership and they did.

What they didn't count on was a B-Girl dancer from Australia with the stage name of "Ray-Gun" (aka Rachael Gunn 36 yrs.). Her final dance battle against a girl half her age earned no points from the judges. That performance quickly hit the Internet and Ray-Gun became a worldwide phenomenon. And not in a good way.

Here are the facts:
  • The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has scratched Break-Dancing from the Los Angeles 2028 Games. There is no word on whether it will return.
  • Ray-Gun received no points from the judges on all of her three dance battles.
  • Her husband was not an Olympic judge. He is only her coach.
  • Ray-Gun beat out 15 other B-Girl dancers at the Oceania Break-Dancing Championship 2023 in Australia. Her qualification dance is online and she was chosen by a panel of nine judges to go to the Olympics 2024.
  • The Change.org petition was taken down after 50,000 signatures asked the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) to explain how and why Ray-Gun got to the Olympics.
  • Ray-Gun's Olympic entry was not rigged by her nor her husband.
  • NBC will not share Ray-Gun's complete performances online.

2024 Olympics Break-Dancer 'Ray-Gun' is now a World-Wide 'Joke' on the Internet

OLYMPICS at PARIS (2024). It has only been seven days since the "Games" ended. Unfortunately, the pile-on of mockery continues for Australian break-dancer "Ray-Gun" (Rachael Gunn). The Internet just will not let go of her disastrous performance during the first ever "Break Dance" competition at the Olympics.

The committee has scratched this category for the Los Angeles Olympic games in 2028.

Ray-Gun is 36-years-old and it showed on-stage because she wasn't in shape for the competition. Her three dance "battles" against other females received three "0's" from the Olympic judges. She claimed in her response to the online criticism that she worked her "butt" off for the Olympics. Well... From the naked eye. She didn't train at all for those three performances. She was literally crawling and hopping on the stage in what looked like a last second choreography. Even though break dancing is in the moment originality.

The Internet "parodies" and "memes" have reached more than 1,500 and are rising by the day. Australians are embarrassed by Ray-Gun and they are laughing at her performance too.

Her husband is her coach who happens to be a former break-dancer. He was not a judge at the Olympics. Ray-Gun's qualification video is online and she beat out another Australian female who was infinitely better. Ray-Gun apparently earned her spot on the Olympic team. It really is unbelievable but there it is. She and her terrible performance will be "laughed" at for years to come.

Olympics Break-Dancer 'Raygun' talks after world-wide condemnation online

OLYMPICS at PARIS (2024). I am a huge fan of the Olympic games and scream the loudest for USA athletes. "Break-Dancing" came to the games in its' first year. This might be the last because the Olympic committee has scratched the category for the Los Angeles 2028 games. Many believe it shouldn't have been an Olympic sport in the first place. I totally agree.

With that said.... An Australian female break-dancer named, "Ray-Gun" (36 yrs.) scored three "0"s from the Olympic judges. That meant she had "battled" against three other dancers onstage. Her final dance went viral on the internet and not because it was good. It's so bad that online parodies have reached around the world. Everyone is laughing at her attempt to break-dance. She even tried a "kangaroo" hop in her performance. You have to see it to believe it.

"Ray-Gun" is the butt of so many jokes that she has become a popular "Meme" online. Even the "Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" got in on the act. There is a petition online asking for an investigation into why "Ray-Gun" got to the Olympics in the first place.

The question remains, "How did she get to compete while there were other better break-dancers?"

NBC. Her real name is Rachael Gunn. The Olympic games 2024.

Classic Movie Flashback 'Back to School' 1986 with Rodney Dangerfield

BACK TO SCHOOL distributed by ORION pictures (1986). It starred Rodney Dangerfield who became a popular stand up comedian at age 40. His most famous phrase was, "I get no respect!" The opportunity to work in films came and Rodney never got the role which fit his personality. That is until "Back to School."

The production budget climbed to $11 million. It hit big with $91 million at the box office. Critics and fans praised Rodney's performance as his best work in a comedy.

The story surrounds Thorton Melon (Dangerfield) who is a self-made millionaire. His son Jason Melon (Keith Gordon) is in college who isn't getting good grades. He is also a competitive swimming pool diver. Thorton is worried about his son and decides to enroll in the same college. He goes through his own experience as a student who learns about life as the oldest Freshman.

Dangerfield was a very popular comedian and "Back to School" was his only box office hit. It was also his best performance.
