'Dateline' A violent kidnapping in the Philippines of a mom & son

"Dateline" (NBC) can be seen each Friday evening at 10/9 p.m. It aired in Albuquerque, NM at 9 p.m. (central time) on KOB 4. Last night's episode on Jan. 20, 2017 was called, “Kidnapped.” In the overnight TV ratings it garnered 3.03 million TV viewers overall. It reached 0.8 million TV viewers in the all important 18 to 49 adult demographic. "Blue Bloods" (CBS) grabbed 9.75 overall & 1.2 with adults. “20/20” (ABC) nabbed 4.47 overall & 0.9 with adults.

“Dateline” is an investigative program focusing on crime & murder in the United States. The reporter and narrator is Keith Morrison. The NBC TV preview was called "Heart of Darkness."

“Kidnapped.” In the country of the Philippines 2011. A mother and son are kidnapped in a boat. An extremist group first called themselves, “Al Qaeda” and then “ISIS.” They contact the American father and demand $10 million in exchange for the wife and son. FBI informants are on the ground in the Philippines and hostage negotiators are with the father. He could only raise an estimated $20,000. His wife calls and the kidnappers want more money and they beat her while she's on the phone.

Unless I missed it, whatever happened to the male cousin who also was kidnapped?

The repeat episode says nothing on what happened to the cousin. They only report that he was let go after the mother was released. He was there though to re-create their capture and confinement in that cage. RP
