MARY TYLER MOORE (1936-2017). Unfortunately, I never a saw a single episode of, "The Dick Van Dyke Show" (1961-66). I'll have to check it out after so many people are "binge" watching it in 2017. My parents used to watch the "Mary Tyler Moore" show (1970-77). I remember that Mary Richards had all these awful dates after working all day in the newsroom. My favorite episode was where that clown dressed as a peanut, was killed in a parade by an elephant. Mary was serious while everyone laughed. At the clown's funeral however, she couldn't control her own laughter.
I didn't recognize Moore in her role as the bitter mother named Beth, in the film, "Ordinary People" (1980). It was directed by Robert Redford and Moore received her only best actress Oscar nomination. (She lost to Sissy Spacek for "Coal Miner's Daughter."). Moore was so far removed from her comedic roles. It was a nice transition into a dramatic actress which was already there. We just didn't see it. I used to watch that movie only for Moore's performance. Rest in Peace...,
