1950 John Huston's 'The Asphalt Jungle' is first important Heist movie
THE ASPHALT JUNGLE from MGM studios (1950). I just reviewed the current British heist movie called, "Fuze." (It was pretty awful).
I'd like to talk about one of the finest Heist films ever made. It's called, "The Asphalt Jungle" from 1950. I rank it at number #13 on my list of favorite Film Noirs. (A movie shot in black & white). This is very influential for other heist movies that followed it.
The story is simple. An elder crook gets out of prison. He wants to make one last robbery of beautiful "diamonds." He hires a few desperate criminals who live outside the law. It's just above the asphalt from which they walk. The police know these criminals and watch them closely. The heist goes as planned. The problem is that each criminal makes mistakes as they re-enter regular society. They can't cope as normal people.
Director John Huston co-wrote the screenplay and also directed this movie. The story is based on a book and is set in an unknown city. It was actually filmed in Cincinnati, Ohio.
There are so many good things to talk about with this film. For me, it is the opening shot of those layered bricks which rise toward the street. We see the city and then the police car. They seem to be searching for criminals in the asphalt jungle.
We also see that each criminal breathes crime. They have dreams of better lives even when their crimes keep dragging them down. We pull for these characters as the heist becomes a success. (I could go on with my analogies).
Marilyn Monroe would become a huge movie star in the 1950's. She has a small but important role in this film. The ultimate blonde bombshell.
Check this out if you want to see a great Heist movie. The Criterion Collection is the best way to see this.

UK Sky Original 'Fuze' is a heist movie with no substance 2-out-of-5 Stars*
FUZE from SKY ORIGINAL (2026). It was distributed by Studio Canal. As of May 28, 2026. It has grossed a worldwide total of $4,260,386 (million). The North American total is $1,485,149 (million).
The film will run online at "Sky Original." No date announced yet. Check your membership for updates.
When the movie trailer is better than the entire film. There are problems. The cast is full of British "stars" who are somewhat known in the U.S. Except Sam Worthington who is from Australia (I think).
I love "Heist" movies and this one is disappointing for one reason. We don't care about any of the story characters. We only get a glimpse of the three main robbers at the end. We see how they met and how they decided to rob a bank in the UK. It is for uncut diamonds worth millions ($$$).
Sorry about the spoiler. But, even in the end. We don't know who these men really are.
In countless "Heist" films. The audience sees "why" criminals try to pull off a bank job. We see who they are and how they come together. "Fuze" gives us nothing but a by-the-numbers heist that leaves us empty. So, we don't care or at least I didn't care.

Mel Gibson's 'The Resurrection of the Christ' will be split into two movie parts
THE RESURRECTION OF THE CHRIST from LIONS-GATE. The two part film is directed by Mel Gibson.
This is the long awaited sequel to "The Passion of the Christ" 2004. It was directed by Gibson. It was also a huge box office hit nabbing $610 million worldwide.

Reboot News 'Cliffhanger' slated for Theatrical Release on Aug. 28, 2026
ROW-K-ENTERTAINMENT picked up the distribution rights to CLIFF-HANGER. It is scheduled for theatrical release on Aug. 28, 2026. (It was on the list for release back on April 3, 2026). The film stars Lily James and Pierce Brosnan.
This is a re-imagining of the 1993 thriller "Cliffhanger" that starred Sylvester Stallone. It was a box office smash nabbing $255 million worldwide. Stallone was preparing to star in the sequel, but it never materialized. He was attached to the project until 2024. Several film directors had also dropped out over the years. "Cliffhanger 2" has been green-lit for production in 2025. There is no word if Stallone is attached.
"Cliffhanger"(2026) has finished filming and is in post production. There is no movie trailer and the only publicity is a poster with Lily James climbing a mountain. It sounds like a struggling production on the financial end. The word is that it won't even be released this August. It might go straight-to-digital and/or on demand. Who knows?
Please ignore the fake trailers of "Cliffhanger 2" on YouTube. Plus, the AI generated movie posters with several male film stars (including Sly Stallone). I have a feeling it may never be produced - 33 years later.
AI Trailer 'Hell Grind' private screening May 21, 2026
HELL GRIND is an AI generated movie from the "Higgsfield" platform. The production budget reached $500,000. The teaser trailer premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. A one night screening will be held May 21, 2026 for industry filmmakers.
The "Higgsfield" platform wants to test out a full length AI generated movie. IMO.. The trailer looks pretty bad. The story is cliche and the AI effects are not up to par.

48 Hours (CBS).... "In 2002, television reporter Jennifer Servo was found murdered weeks after moving to Texas to start a new job at a local news station. In 1991, Patty Scoville moved to Vermont to become a ski instructor, but weeks later was found raped and murdered on a local hiking trail. Both murders went unsolved for years, but in one case, the killer was finally brought to justice."
