NBC.CHOOSING TEXAS sung and co-written by ELLA LANGLEY (2026). I usually don't do this because I report on movies, trailers and mystery podcasts. But.... I'll make an exception because I am a classic country music fan (1980s & 1990s).
Everyone has gone crazy over the newest song by Ella Langley. It's called, "Choosing Texas" and it is a throw-back to traditional country music. It hit number #1 on the hot country chart for 25 weeks. It has crossed over to the hot pop chart and hit number #1 for 18 non-consecutive weeks (8-22-2026). It is the song of the Summer.
"Texas" tells the story about Ella who is from the state of Tennessee. She travels with her boyfriend back to his home town of Abilene, Texas. They walk into a bar and his former childhood sweetheart is there. Ella realizes that she may lose her man and what waits for him in Abilene. She sings about him choosing Texas even after what she had taught him about Tennessee.
This certainly is a return to what country music used to be. The lyrics, the voice and the musical sound. Older music fans are saying, "Country music is back from the dead." Everyone is reacting to this song across the internet. It has reached number #1 in multiple countries too. Celebrities, country singers and regular folks are singing their "covers" of the song. A rap artist created his own lyrics over the song. Music singers are even writing an answer to the song by "Leaving Texas" (Hahaha!).
What I like are the lyrics that mention older country artist songs, "Smokey Mountain Rain" (Ronnie Milsap), "Amarillo By Morning", (George Strait) and "East Bound and Down" (Jerry Reed). Their influence on Ella is extraordinary and it is just old-fashioned country.!!

20/20 (ABC).... "Weeks into the search for the McStay family, investigators find a promising clue. Family and friends aren't convinced."
Trailer synopsis.... "The film follows Jack Harrison, a 20-year-old commander within the secretive Earth Security Service, an organization charged with protecting Earth from extraterrestrial threats. When a high-level oversight threatens to expose the agency, Jack uncovers a web of betrayal and hidden agendas that forces him to go rogue. Suddenly hunted by powerful enemies, he must rely on his training, instincts, and unlikely alliances as he races to stop a threat capable of shifting the balance of power on Earth."
Questions.... This young man is still in high school? Is he training from a mock video game? Where does the Sci-Fi come in? If he is a commander. How can he be ranked so high without experience or training? Can this skinny and scrawny guy be a fighting machine? Is this a Junior "Jason Bourne?" His fight sequences look amateur inside a classroom.
I give credit to filmmakers trying to make a movie. But, this trailer gives us no real story when it's supposed to be Sc-Fi. You be the judge.
Dateline (NBC).... "When Kelly Horn finds out her father, former FBI agent Scott Horn, has been murdered at his house, she is stunned. As police dig into Scott’s past, they begin to think the key to the mystery might be quite close to home. Josh Mankiewicz reports."

Dear Roscoe... (SAG-AFTRA Member),
"I hope you are enjoying the final weeks of summer. There is a great deal happening across our New Mexico Local, and I’m excited to share some of the work underway as we continue advocating for our members and strengthening New Mexico’s position as one of the country’s premier production destinations."
"One of the most important initiatives moving forward is a proposed 5% Principal Performer Uplift to New Mexico’s film production tax incentive. The uplift is designed to encourage productions to hire more New Mexico resident principal performers for roles — creating meaningful opportunities for our members while strengthening the state’s homegrown professional workforce. SAG-AFTRA will be an active partner as the proposal moves forward. When the Legislature convenes in January 2027, we will be calling on you to help."
"Another important development is the convening of New Mexico’s Film & Media Task Force, which is examining the laws, regulations and regulatory approaches affecting our film and media industry. I’m pleased that Bronwen Murray, executive director of the SAG-AFTRA New Mexico Local, has been named to serve as SAG-AFTRA’s representative on the Task Force."
"This gives our members an important voice as policymakers consider how New Mexico’s regulatory framework can evolve alongside the development of our industry. We hope this process will be an important first step toward strengthening standards and protections for performers and adopting best practices similar to those found in other major production states, including Georgia, California, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Florida."
"As New Mexico production levels rebound, we believe the infrastructure surrounding the industry should grow with it. Protecting performers, encouraging responsible business practices and ensuring New Mexico remains a place where professional performers can build sustainable careers is a top priority of my presidency."
"In other news, I recently had the wonderful opportunity to join members and staff for a tour of Netflix Studios Albuquerque. Seeing the campus firsthand was extraordinary, particularly the innovative sustainability work incorporated throughout the studio. From its solar and geothermal conservation efforts to the larger goal of building production infrastructure with a smaller environmental footprint, the campus demonstrates what a modern studio can look like. It truly is a one-of-a-kind facility that I am so proud is here in our state."
"But as impressive as the stages and facilities are, what I most look forward to is seeing them full of production again — with our members working on those stages and throughout New Mexico."
"And speaking of the incredible work of our members, I hope you’ll take part in our upcoming Film Showcase. This is an opportunity to highlight the talent and creativity of SAG-AFTRA members across our state and to celebrate the work being created right here in New Mexico. If you have work you would like considered for the Showcase, be sure to register by Sept. 14. More details can be found here."
"There is a great deal to be excited about in the months ahead. From supporting more principal performer opportunities at the Legislature to celebrating our members’ work to preparing for the next wave of production in New Mexico, our Local continues to move forward because of the engagement and commitment of our members."
Thank you for being part of it.
In solidarity,
Talia Pura
New Mexico Local President

Movie Poster 2026.THE MAVERICK QUEEN from REPUBLIC pictures (1956). Kino Lorber remastered this western from a 35 millimeter film print. It stars Barbara Stanwyck and Barry Sullivan. It is based on the book written by Zane Grey.
This movie is number #19 on my list of favorite westerns. It is now on Blu-Ray.
The story is simple. A lone gunman arrives in a small town called, "Rock Springs, Wyoming." He joins a gang called, "The Wild Bunch." Butch Cassidy and Sundance run this group of outlaws. The gunman meets a ruthless woman named "Kit." She owns most of Rock Springs and also runs with the wild bunch.
Republic Pictures tried to cash-in on the wide-screen trend of the time. "Cinerama." Republic called there's, "Naturama." This trend by the movie studios was created to compete with television. It was cutting into movie profits of the 1950's. Republic also used "Trucolor" just like "Technicolor." It was a gamble before Republic closed its independent company. The color film is no longer used.
The Zane Grey novel is more explicit and racist. It's toned down for this movie.
This is a cliche western like so many others. The difference is the location setting of Wyoming. (It was filmed in Colorado). The tall, steep mountains serve as the back drop and what beautiful scenery. It serves as a character in itself. It certainly comes alive on BluRay.
Barbara Stanwyck was known to do her own stunts in all of her westerns. She does again here. The big drop on the side of that ridge is scary and fantastic. She rides that horse straight down while being chased by Sundance. (Stanwyck was later inducted as an honorary stunt woman).
If you love westerns like I do. Check this out for Stanwyck and those great mountains plus landscapes. The people look so small but they survive in a wild country.

PRIME-TIME from A24. It stars Robert Pattison as Chris Hansen. The film is based on the NBC TV show, "To Catch a Predator."
"Predator" began as part of a segment on the series "Dateline" (2004). It was so popular that NBC gave it a TV spot in Prime-time (2007). It ran for only one season with 20 episodes.
I actually liked it on "Dateline." It was very popular. I think if it stayed on that show. It would've lasted longer. Robert Pattison is good in the trailers.
