Western 'Apache Junction' filled with cliche's and no story

APACHE JUNCTION from HILLIN ENTERTAINMENT. I decided to pay for video-on-demand at Prime Video ($6.99). I should've waited to check-out the DVD at the public library.... I watched it because this Western was filmed right here at New Mexico. I even recognized several local actors in the cast.

It began as a story about a female news reporter. She travels to "Apache Junction" to write a story on the real "Wild West." She gets there and her character disappears into the background. What do we get? All of the old cliche's used in every Western. You know them.... The bar fight, the killing at a poker game and the damsel in distress. (Boring). Why is this news reporter there at all? What happened to "her" story?

The mixed to bad reviews are coming in. Country singer - Trace Adkins has nothing to do in this either. He is receiving good reviews though for his next Western, "Old Henry." It opens in movie theaters this Friday Oct. 1, 2021. (I'll be walking into a theater to watch this one.).

The "Apache Junction" writer and director, Justin Lee, is interviewed by "Cowboys & Indians" Magazine. It's online if you want to check it out... Lee's last western, "Badland" won numerous awards at the 3rd annual, "Cowboys & Indians" movie awards.

Trailer 'Apache Junction' in theaters Friday Sept. 24, 2021 plus Video-On-Demand

APACHE JUNCTION from HILLIN ENTERTAINMENT. It was filmed right here at Santa fe,  New Mexico. If you cannot find it in a movie theater near you. It's online over at Prime Video for $6.99. Written and Directed by Justin Lee.

I found two movie reviews and both were not "glowing." The trailer looks promising. I'm not sold yet because of the western cliche's. Justin Lee's "Badland" was an internet streaming hit during the pandemic. However - the bad reviews over at the Internet Movie Database (IMDB) scared me away.

If anyone knows me. I love westerns and have seen them all dating back to the silent movie era. I try to find something new that westerns haven't done before. The problem with independent westerns is..., The filmmakers try too hard to be "westerns."

I'll take a chance on renting APACHE JUNCTION at Prime Video. Only because it was filmed right here in New Mexico.

The first episode, "The Haunting of Ball Cemetary" aired last Feb. 17, 2021. Unsolved mysteries will come from the original show. Each segment runs 30 minutes and will air each week.

I am binge listening right now. Most of them are murder mysteries never solved.

Remake 'Nightmare Alley' in movie theaters December 2021

NIGHTMARE ALLEY from 20TH CENTURY FOX (1947). It starred that studio's biggest star Tyrone Power (He died of a heart attack in 1958 at age 44.). He portrayed Stanton "Stan" Carlisle who is a con-artist and carnival barker. The role was a departure from his romantic leading parts that made him an international star. Power had stated that Stan was his favorite role in all of the films he made.

It was a box office flop in 1947. Movie audiences just didn't want to see Tyrone as an evil character. Nonetheless - the movie was re-released in Europe for 7 years from 1947 to 1954. It has now become a Cult Classic among film "Noir" fans. It looks fantastic on DVD and in glorius "Black & White." Power is absolutely convincing as this seedy character in the carnival world.

It would be one of three movie roles where Tyrone was "evil." The first was as a Cad with, "In Old Chicago" (1938), Stan in "Nightmare Alley" (1947) and a handsome killer in, "Witness for the Prosecution." (1958).

74 years later - Guillermo del Toro (director) will release his version of "Nightmare Alley" with Bradley Cooper (Dec. 2021).
