Ben Cross portrayed athlete Harold Abrahams in the 1980 best picture Oscar winner "Chariots of Fire." Abrahams faced racism because he was Jewish who ran in the 1924 Olympics.

"Chariots" was critically acclaimed and received 7 Oscar nominations. It was the dark horse to win Best Picture, but won over "Reds", "On Golden Pond", "Atlantic City" and "Raiders of the Lost Ark." It won 4 Oscars out of the 7 nominations. It was also a box office hit grabbing $59 million at 1980 ticket prices.
