PRIMATE from PARAMOUNT pictures (2026). The production budget climbed to a reported $21-24 million. The slasher film has now stalled at $41 million in movie theaters. It was released on Digital and Video-On-Demand Feb. 10, 2026. It will be released on Blu-Ray and DVD April 21, 2026 (With bonus materials).
The Paramount advertising campaign capitalized on preview audiences. They gave "Primate" a 92 percent cinema-score (rotten tomatoes website). It also used frightened theater reactions in their promotional ads. The North American box office total climbed to $25 million. Paramount recouped their money and added $17-20 million in profit.
The key is to scare film audiences which "Primate" accomplished. There were CGI effects, but not with the actual chimpanzee (Ben). A little-person actor was put in a monkey suit with great facial make-up. That made the film scary because it was so "real." (In my opinion). Complete CGI effects do not make a film better.
