Doris Day died from a heavy case of pneumonia. In her autobiography - Doris claimed she always wanted to be a dancer, just like her idol, Ginger Rogers. Fate had a different plan when she broke her leg in a car accident. She began singing and the rest is history because that "talent" moved her into 1940's (big band) radio and then movies throughout the 1950's-60's. She even had a popular TV show.
Her only best actress Oscar nomination was for her comedic role in "Pillow Talk" (1959). She starred alongside Rock Hudson with whom she had great chemistry. She also worked with big movie stars of that era including, James Cagney, Kirk Douglas, James Stewart, Cary Grant and Clark Gable.
My favorite films were her dramatic roles, "Love Me Or Leave Me" (1955) with Cagney and "The Man Who Knew Too Much" (1956) with Stewart (directed by Alfred Hitchcock). Both films were huge box office hits.
RIP Miss Day.
