Richard Dreyfuss says Oscar Diversity Rules 'They Make Me Vomit'

The Academy Awards (Oscar) has been criticized for lack of diversity inclusion for decades. They have been changing the rules to satisfy all minority groups. The Best Picture nominees for 2025 have to include Ethnic representation in 2 of 4 standard categories.

  1. ON-SCREEN REPRESENTATION, THEMES AND NARRATIVES
  2. CREATIVE LEADERSHIP AND PROJECT TEAM
  3. INDUSTRY ACCESS AND OPPORTUNITIES
  4. AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT

Richard Dreyfuss won the Best Actor Oscar for "The Goodbye Girl" back in 1977. He recently criticized the new Academy rules.

He said, "They make me vomit... It’s an art. No one should be telling me as an artist that I have to give in to the latest, most current idea of what morality is. What are we risking? Are we really risking hurting people’s feelings? You can’t legislate that."

You have to let life be life. I’m sorry, I don’t think there is a minority or majority in the country that has to be catered to like that.”

A lot of people agree with him.
