The RUST western movie has plans to end shooting in the final days of May 2023. The production moved from the state of New Mexico to Montana after the on-set death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. The producer and star of the western is Alec Baldwin who held the gun that went off killing Halyna back in 2021. That gun was loaded with real bullets.
Here is what we know so far.
- Manslaughter charges were dropped against Alec Baldwin.
- New prosecutors say they can still charge Alec. A fresh investigation begins.
- Dave Halls pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon. He was the first assistant director on-set.
- Dave handed the gun to Alec that went off on-set. Dave says he never held that gun.
- The on-set "Armorer" Hannah Gutierrez Reed still faces an involuntary manslaughter charge. Her job was to handle all prop guns for the movie.
- Hannah has asked a court to dismiss the charge against her.
- New forensic testing will be performed on the gun that killed Halyna.
