New Mexico SAG-AFTRA Message from Local President 'Talia Pura'

 Dear Roscoe... (SAG-AFTRA Member),

SAG-AFTRA 2026.

"I hope you are enjoying the final weeks of summer. There is a great deal happening across our New Mexico Local, and I’m excited to share some of the work underway as we continue advocating for our members and strengthening New Mexico’s position as one of the country’s premier production destinations."

"One of the most important initiatives moving forward is a proposed 5% Principal Performer Uplift to New Mexico’s film production tax incentive. The uplift is designed to encourage productions to hire more New Mexico resident principal performers for roles — creating meaningful opportunities for our members while strengthening the state’s homegrown professional workforce. SAG-AFTRA will be an active partner as the proposal moves forward. When the Legislature convenes in January 2027, we will be calling on you to help."

"Another important development is the convening of New Mexico’s Film & Media Task Force, which is examining the laws, regulations and regulatory approaches affecting our film and media industry. I’m pleased that Bronwen Murray, executive director of the SAG-AFTRA New Mexico Local, has been named to serve as SAG-AFTRA’s representative on the Task Force."

"This gives our members an important voice as policymakers consider how New Mexico’s regulatory framework can evolve alongside the development of our industry. We hope this process will be an important first step toward strengthening standards and protections for performers and adopting best practices similar to those found in other major production states, including Georgia, California, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Florida."

"As New Mexico production levels rebound, we believe the infrastructure surrounding the industry should grow with it. Protecting performers, encouraging responsible business practices and ensuring New Mexico remains a place where professional performers can build sustainable careers is a top priority of my presidency."

"In other news, I recently had the wonderful opportunity to join members and staff for a tour of Netflix Studios Albuquerque. Seeing the campus firsthand was extraordinary, particularly the innovative sustainability work incorporated throughout the studio. From its solar and geothermal conservation efforts to the larger goal of building production infrastructure with a smaller environmental footprint, the campus demonstrates what a modern studio can look like. It truly is a one-of-a-kind facility that I am so proud is here in our state."

"But as impressive as the stages and facilities are, what I most look forward to is seeing them full of production again — with our members working on those stages and throughout New Mexico."

"And speaking of the incredible work of our members, I hope you’ll take part in our upcoming Film Showcase. This is an opportunity to highlight the talent and creativity of SAG-AFTRA members across our state and to celebrate the work being created right here in New Mexico. If you have work you would like considered for the Showcase, be sure to register by Sept. 14. More details can be found here."

"There is a great deal to be excited about in the months ahead. From supporting more principal performer opportunities at the Legislature to celebrating our members’ work to preparing for the next wave of production in New Mexico, our Local continues to move forward because of the engagement and commitment of our members."

Thank you for being part of it.

In solidarity,

Talia Pura

New Mexico Local President
