Max Von Sydow 'Exorcist', 'Greatest Story Ever Told' dies at age 90

My favorite film of Max Von Sydow is "The Greatest Story Ever Told" (1965). He was cast as Jesus. It was nominated for 5 Oscars, but didn't win. It grossed $15 million at the box office after an over-budget of $20 million. It was said that even though George Stevens directed the film. He had help by other famous directors of that era. The reason was that Stevens went over budget and 20th Century Fox dropped it. United Artists picked it up and released the 3-hour epic which was originally 4 hours.

On the DVD release. Max Von Sydow was interviewed about his portrayal of Jesus. Even though the film didn't make its' money back. It remains one of the best movies about Jesus since 1965. Stevens was a powerful force in Hollywood after winning several best director "Oscars." Many movie stars at the time, wanted to appear in the Epic film. That included John Wayne. Check it out on DVD for Max Von Sydow's performance.

'Stuber' plays to the movie 'Cliches' with a few funny moments

STUBER from 20TH CENTURY FOXAccording to "The Numbers" that tracks box office receipts. "Stuber" garnered $22,370,452 at the North American box office. It grabbed $7,264,317 at the Foreign box office. The world-wide total hit $29,634,769. The production budget climbed to $16,000,000.

Mini-Review. The movie "cliches" are all here. A police detective is married to his job who ignores his daughter. His partner is killed by a notorious drug dealer. The detective is thrown off the case by his boss. He runs into a straight-laced "uber" driver who is in love with a friend who doesn't know he exists. The detective and the driver go after the drug dealer in one crazy night.

The lead role is named "Stu" (Kumail Ali Nanjiani) who is a Pakistani-American. Kumail is a known comedian who has a few funny moments. Unfortunately,  we've seen this before in so many cop-buddy films. I was mildly amused....
