THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH from 20TH CENTURY FOX. (1955). It is based on the Broadway play from New York. Tom Ewell played in both that Broadway version and in the movie. Marilyn Monroe was under contract to Fox and it was the only film Billy Wilder had directed at Fox. It became a box office smash ($6 million) for 1955 and cemented Marilyn as a top female star plus a blonde sex symbol.
Billy Wilder co-wrote the screenplay as well as the director. He had to work around the production code because the movie was about adultery in a marriage.
